1 Sep 2015

Essay written by student Harry Fok Cheuk-kwong was one of the winning pieces in the Lee Shiu Financial Essay Competition 2014 jointly organised by Lingnan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The University of Hong Kong.

In 2008, the Financial Tsunami sparked by the subprime mortgage crisis in the United States affected the global economy. To examine how and what led to the Financial Tsunami, participants of the Competition were required to write a 4,000-word English essay analysing the causes of and the lessons learned from the Financial Tsunami.

Each participating institution selected their own First, Second and Third Prize winners. Lingnan’s winners for the three prizes were Harry Fok Cheuk-kwong (Finance, Year 3), Leung Fung-kiu (History, Year 3) and Ma Man-wai (International Studies graduate) respectively. Harry received the prize from the Competition’s chief judge Prof Joseph Yam Chi-kwong, former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority at the award presentation ceremony.
