Distinguished scholar from London School of Economics and Political Science talks about “Architecture, Cities and Globalization”

15 Feb 2016

Professor Emeritus Leslie Sklair, Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science was invited to Lingnan University to give a Public Lecture on “Architecture, Cities and Globalization” on 15 February.  Lingnan faculty members and students joining the lecture took the opportunity to conduct dialogue with Prof Sklair.

In the lecture, Prof Sklair explained how the iconic buildings of our era-elaborate shopping malls, spectacular museums and vast urban megaprojects constitute the triumphal “Icon Project” of contemporary global capitalism, promoting increasing inequality and hyper consumerism. Prof Sklair’s talk attracted a lot of interests from the audience and lively discussion was held after the lecture.

The lecture was followed by a Postgraduate Studies Seminar, which provided an opportunity for postgraduate students to meet with Prof Sklair and share their current research and methodology issues in social sciences.
