Lingnan University invites applications for admission to MPhil and PhD programmes 2017-18

Lingnan University now invites applications for admission to its Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes for the 2017-18 academic year.

At research postgraduate level, Lingnan offers MPhil and PhD programmes in Chinese, Cultural Studies, English, History, Philosophy, Translation, Visual Studies, Business (research areas include Accounting, Decision Sciences, Finance, Information Systems Management, Insurance, International Business, Management, Marketing, and Operations Management), Economics, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology and/or Social Policy.  The programmes will commence in September 2017.  Admitted students will conduct in-depth study in specific research areas.
 
Applicants should hold a relevant bachelor’s degree with first or second class honours for application for admission to an MPhil programme, and hold a master’s degree for application for admission to a PhD programme, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the University, and fulfil language requirements.  Some programmes have specified additional requirements.
 
For admission to our research-based two-year MPhil programmes, applicants may apply directly from 1 November 2016 to 27 January 2017.  Full-time MPhil students will be awarded Postgraduate Studentships which offer a monthly stipend of HK$15,540 (rate subject to review).
 
For admission to our PhD programmes, applicants may apply in two ways as follows:

  • Apply via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong.  Applicants should login the Admission System of the RGC at www.rgc.edu.hk/hkphd to make an initial application during the period from 1 September to 1 December 2016 (Hong Kong Time 12:00 noon).  Each applicant will be allocated a reference number and he/she is required to submit a full application directly to Lingnan’s electronic system at www.LN.edu.hk/admissions/applyonline on or before 2 December 2016.  Successful Fellowship awardees will be provided with HK$240,000/year (HK$20,000/month) and a conference/research-related travel allowance of up to HK$10,000/year for a maximum period of three years.  Applicants who apply for and do not get the Fellowship can still be considered for the regular PhD places at the University. 
  • Apply to the University directly from 1 November 2016 to 27 January 2017 through our electronic system.  Normally, full-time PhD students will be awarded Postgraduate Studentships of HK$15,760/month* (rate subject to review).* To be raised to HK$16,080/month after confirmation of candidature.
