Lingnan’s Focus on Quality Education and Research

Lingnan University’s commitment to quality education has won widespread recognition in recent years. It has led to a consistently high placing in respected international rankings and been evident in every aspect of campus life.

This commitment will continue as the university looks to the future, introducing new programmes, putting greater emphasis on the use of technology, and strengthening links with partner institutions in mainland China and around the world.

As a result, students will be assured of receiving the teaching and opportunities to excel in their chosen courses and disciplines. And they can expect to develop the all-round skills and competencies needed to find career success in a fast-evolving social, economic and cultural environment.

Lingnan graduates are typically known for their depth and breadth of understanding, a sense of civic duty, and maturity of judgement. These characteristics make them fine colleagues and leaders, and allow them to stand out in any field of endeavour.

That, of course, includes postgraduate research, where the university has overseen notable work in areas ranging from social sciences, data science, contemporary China studies, to public policy and smart cities, and where additional support is set to open up many new possibilities.

We adopt a student-oriented teaching and learning approach, emphasise close faculty-student relationship and stress interactive teaching and learning modes. We also provide internships, overseas field trips, immersion language studies, directed research projects, cooperative learning and action learning.

Campus Life

Campus Life

Hostel life and other diverse programmes give students valuable, out-of-class experiences and enhance their communication skills as well as critical thinking abilities. Students also have a wide range of exchange, scholarships and internship opportunities to develop their full potentials.

Internationalisation

Internationalisation

We provide students with international exposure, particularly through bilateral cultural exchange. To date, we have more than 270 partner institutions in more than 50 countries and over 80% of our undergraduates went on exchange or participated in summer or winter programmes before the COVID-19 global pandemic. Half of our faculty have international background while one-seventh of our student population are non-local full-programme or semester-long exchange students. We also enhance our internationalisation efforts through collaborative initiatives with other institutions including those of Global Liberal Arts Alliance.

Community Service

Community Service

Community service is an integral part of Lingnan’s education. We emphasise diversity in both teaching and learning, and use “Education for Service” as our guiding motto. Students are given many chances to engage in various service projects. Starting from 2016-17, S-L will become a graduate requirement for undergraduate studies, signifying our commitment to community engagement and deep learning through experience.
