YES. The University will consider alternative Chinese Language qualifications for non-Chinese speaking students fulfilling the specified conditions as stated below:

(a) students who have studied Chinese Language for less than six years while receiving primary and secondary education; or

(b) students who have studied Chinese Language for six years or more in schools which adopt an adapted and simpler Chinese Language curriculum not otherwise applicable to the majority of students in local schools.

NO. For JUPAS applicants, only HKDSE English Language result will be considered. Other English qualifications (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL) will only be considered as a reference but not a substitute.

Other Language subjects in Category C will be recognised as unspecified elective subjects. The minimum requirement is Grade E.

YES. If the students have taken both M1 and M2, they will only be considered as one subject.

YES. Applied Learning subjects (Category B) may be recognised as electives/bonus score/tie-breakers by individual programmes. 

For applicants who have taken more than two elective, the result(s) in extra elective(s) may be used as additional supporting information. 

Student Learning Profile (SLP) will be recognised as document of good reference value that reflects a student’s achievement in both academic and non-academic aspects in the admission process and serves as the purpose of providing topics for discussion in admission interviews, if any. It may also help Faculties/Departments differentiate students with similar academic performance.

All information provided by applicants via the JUPAS online application system will be made available to the Faculty/Department concerned for consideration. Applicants who wish to submit their portfolios to individual Faculties/Departments may do so when they are invited for admission interviews, if any.

The best results from a combination of all HKDSE subjects will be considered and there is no penalty or mark deduction for repeated sittings of a subject.

(a) All applicants (school and non-school applicants) who wish to apply for admission to the full-time government-funded undergraduate programmes on the strength of HKDSE results SHOULD apply via JUPAS. Such applicants will be considered only on the basis of their HKDSE results.

(b) All school applicants as in (a) above MUST apply via their respective schools.

(c) School applicants who may be sitting for the HKDSE examination in some/all subjects as private candidates MUST apply via JUPAS AND via their respective schools as school applicants.

Applicants who seek admission on the strength of HKDSE results SHOULD apply via JUPAS. They are NOT allowed to submit a separate application to the University directly in the same academic year.  

From 2013 onwards, applicants with qualifications other than HKDSE results only (e.g. HKALE, IB, GCE) should apply for admission to the University via non-JUPAS route.

Admission criteria for different programmes vary and applicants may either be admitted directly or shortlisted for interview to determine their eligibility for admission. Applicants may also be required to take an oral and/or written test. If an interview is required, the University will inform applicants by phone, email or by post.

Interviews for JUPAS applicants, if any, will normally be held before or after the HKDSE results are released.

Apart from language courses and courses in the Chinese and the Translation Departments, the University uses mainly English as the language of instruction, and this may be supplemented with Cantonese/Putonghua where appropriate.

The University academic year starts at the beginning of September and ends at the end of August in the following calendar year. The academic year consists of two terms, each covering approximately 15 weeks of academic activities, and there may be an intensive summer term usually of a shorter duration.

The normal study load of a full-time first year student should be 15 in a term and the maximum study load should be 30 credits in an academic year. For a second year or above full-time student, the normal study load in a term should be in the range of 15 to 18 credits and the maximum study load in an academic year should be 33 credits.
