This domain aims to develop students’ understanding of both historical and social development in Hong Kong, as well as their awareness of global issues. It also helps to develop students’ ability to analyze their own strengths and weaknesses, set personal and vocational goals, and have the self-esteem, confidence, motivation, and abilities to be the leader in future. Students and office-bearers of student societies could participate in trainings via different modes of learning, including seminars, courses, field trips, community services projects, leadership and executive training, etc.

Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. Understand the relationship between mental health and drug abuse;
2. Describe the community supportive service for drug abusers in Hong Kong; and
3. Acquire knowledge and skills essential to the rehabilitation service.

Description:

The workshop will provide insights into the Counselling Centre Psychotropic Substances Abusers (CCPSA) and the “ImPerfect” Project by Caritas, which focuses on serving women working in the nightclub. It aims to help students gain a deeper understanding of mental health, substance abuse-related knowledge, the personal journeys of individuals in recovery, and Hong Kong's community based drug rehabilitation services.

Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. Have a deeper understanding of Youth as Agents of Behavioural Change (YABC), a flagship initiative of The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) on the promotion of a culture of non-violence and peace (CNV+P);
2. Take up an ethical leadership role in inspiring a positive transformation of mindsets, attitudes, and behaviors and their community; and
3. Learn and explore solutions to Social Inclusion—all in a safe and supportive learning environment.

Description:

This workshop will uses non-formal peer education techniques such as games, role plays, simulation and visualization exercises, storytelling and arts. Through these activities, participants are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone, working together to learn and explore solutions to problems—all in a safe and supportive learning environment.
It was created in 2008 for youth and with youth from Red Cross and Red Crescent worldwide.
Humanity is to act, to care about those in plight and stand by them in difficult times.

Cross-Cultural Appreciation and Integration Sustainability
Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. Describe the concept of "Education for Service";
2. Aware of the significance and positive impacts of community services; and
3. Elevate the interest and commitment towards volunteerism in a long run.

In support of Lingnan University’s motto “Education for Service”, volunteer-service related student societies and devoted students, including Uni-Y and Lingnan C.Connects, coordinate with OSA to organize service projects in LU Service Day. We are inviting students, especially first-year ones to make wonderful results in volunteering. We care for others, to make a positive impact for the betterment of humanity.

In this year, we are going to have a number of service projects to be run under the LU Service Day. Let's join hands with your fellows to serve our community together!

Leadership Cross-Cultural Appreciation and Integration Sustainability
Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. Describe the nature and programme details of the Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme;
2. Understand the duties of a Hong Kong Young Ambassador and the positive impacts that can be acquired through sharing by the Ambassador; and
3. Encourage the participation towards the Scheme.

Description:

The Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme is jointly organised by the Tourism Commission of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. Since launched in 2001, the Scheme has attracted more than 4,100 young people to participate, who strive to promote Hong Kong’s hospitable culture and diverse tourism appeal to visitors around the world. This sharing session will not only describe the nature and programme details of the Scheme, but will also help you understand the duties of a Hong Kong Young Ambassador, the positive impacts and experience gained through sharing by the Ambassadors.

Objectives:

1. Learn foundational skills and techniques of playing the singing bowls;
2. Create a serene atmosphere conducive to mindfulness and introspection; and
3. Engage in a time and space to create a peaceful state of mind to interact with others.

Description:

Have you ever used any sound healing tools to relieve stress? Singing Bowl Experiential Workshop is a workshop where participants learn how to use singing bowls. Singing bowls are widely used as sound healing tools, as they can help to balance the body and mind, enhance blood circulation, improve insomnia, relieve stress, and muscle pain, etc. It can be a calming and healing way to practice mindfulness and connect with one's inner self, thereby fostering positive and harmonious relationships with others.

Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. Experience the healing power and inspiration of flowers through learning floral art;
2. Learn basic skills and techniques of floral art arrangement; and
3. Create floral art decoration as gifts to people in need as a gesture of care, love or gratitude.

Description:

Have you ever tried DIY your own floral creation? A floral art workshop is a workshop where participants learn how to create beautiful and artistic arrangements of flowers. They can use fresh or dried flowers, as well as other materials such as ribbons, vases, baskets, etc. Participants will be encouraged to offer these floral creations as gifts to loved ones or people in need as a gesture of care, love or gratitude.

Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. Learn in a "Tabletop Role Playing Game" (T.R.P.G.) (桌上角色扮演遊戲) with team members;
2. Elevate empathy and critical thinking capability; and
3. Understand the importance of embracing different views of people.

The 'Table for Choices" (生命抉擇劇場) is “Tabletop Role Playing Game” (T.R.P.G.) and was established with an aim to explore social issues, promote life education, cultivate critical thinking, and enhance self-reflection skills. Participants can enjoy puzzle-solving, role-playing, and experience different life situations to trigger reflection.

Once the challenger is immersed in the script, you will incarnate different characters in a specific historical context and complete corresponding tasks. The challenger must give life to the character through on-site role-playing, verbal expression, and actions, and ultimately, due to everyone's choices, the story will enter a diverse ending. Even in the same script, the challenger will have different story experiences due to a slight difference in choices. After each adventure, the host will explain the activity according to the theme message of the script and combined with the on-site performance of the challengers.

Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. Describe the history of the Tuen Mun district at which Lingnan is located;
2. Understand and appreciate the development and changes of the district; and
3. Instill a sense of belonging towards the Tuen Mun district and Hong Kong.

Description:

Have you ever walked through the Lam Tei Village, one of the old villages near the Lingnan University? The village is traditional and accessible which makes up the northern end of Tuen Mun District. In this activity, we are going to have a 1.5-hour community tour at Lam Tei, which is the fascinated and special place for relaxation tour. We will visit a number of traditional attractions and your deeper understanding of this special area in Tuen Mun will be assured.

1. Develop a sense of connection with food and its origin through practical biscuit; workshop and knowledge on organic farming
2. Enjoy the fun of experiential game on the local crops and ecological relationship with farming in everyday life; and
3. Explore the Tuen Mun community engagement and the co-living value upheld in School of Everyday Life (生活書院).

Description:

Have you heard of the old saying "Eating the right food at the right time" (不時不食)? Do you know that there is a close relationship between season and our consumption of food?

"We are what we eat." Food consumption is not only a daily pleasant enjoyment, but also a process of connection building - self-awareness and environment. In collaboration with School of Everyday Life (生活書院), a Tuen Mun-based charity that advocates mindful living and experiential education, you will enjoy a vegan biscuit making x local crop tasting session with concepts of seasonal farming and co-living. You will also enjoy the late afternoon walk around their organic plantation zone, as well as their efforts in coheding the Tuen Mun Community over various public sustainability events and campaigns.

3. Interact with the Chinese medical practitioners for professional sharing on Chinese herbs and their origins.

How much do you know about Chinese herbs? Are you eager to learn about some traditional herbal therapy and theories that would help strengthen your immune system and health?

In collaboration with a local Chinese Herb Garden, Science Unit is glad to invite registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner to share with us his valuable insights of (1) the basic concepts and skill to identify common Chinese herbs and how they work in daily meal and (2) how herbs are grown on organic farming that promotes sustainable medical therapies.

Ever wonder the nourishing and medical value behind wildlife plants? How can we distinguish and apply in practice - that might save a life in wildlife?

In collaboration with the Jockey Club Lo Wai Chinese Herb Garden (賽馬會老圍中藥園*), Science Unit presents to you the journey to become a Herb Master! In this event, you will enjoy sustainable herbal plant tour by professional herbal practitioners, together with a hands-on experience of making your own traditional steamed buns (傳統茶粿) made of herbal plants. While making your own products, you will not only learn the origins of plants, but also some common theories and benefits of Chinese medicine e.g. replenishing of "Qi" that stimulate the spirits, clearing of dryness-heat in liver that produces moistures etc.

1. Explore the biotechincal science / cultivation method behind mushoom and its value on sustainability innovation that "mushroom can save the world";
2. Build up sustainable mind through experiential learning activity of making the own spore prints of each unique mushroom; and
3. Enhance confidence through creating own piece of mushroom print artwork that does not require proficient arts skill.

Description:

Mushroom can save the world! Believe it or not, the widely-grown fungi has magical power to do with sustainability over globe. Not only is mushroom common food product, but it can also be applied in novel mushroom materials with creativity.

Spore print (孢子印) is a unique pattern created with piles of spores, which is released from mushroom for reproduction. In the workshop, you will create spore prints collage with both physical mushroom and on BioArt Tech IT design program under guidance of professional speaker from Mushroom X*. Spore prints of mushroom actually reminisces fingerprints of human – with different mushroom, you will create unique pieces of spore print artwork! Bring your creativity and a ready-for-fun mind! No prior experience of arts and design required!

In this workshop, we will share the skills about how the working team of “Tuenmunality” (溯本尋屯), which is a local district magazine of Tuen Mun, conduct the recording of the local community. Upon conclusion of this workshop, perhaps you can also be a story-recorder of your community!

1. Gain a comprehensive understanding of LGBTQ+ concepts and the spectrum of gender and sexuality identities;
2. Recognise the unique challenges and experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals in Hong Kong’s educational and professional contexts;
3. Learn practical ways to support and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, contributing to a safe and inclusive environment; and
4. Utilise the insights gained to actively participate in creating a more inclusive campus for gender-diverse individuals.

Description:

This seminar educates students on LGBTQ+ topics, fostering a campus culture of inclusivity and allyship. The seminar will cover a range of subjects, from understanding LGBTQ+ identities and non-binary perspectives to recognising cisgender and heteronormative privileges in Hong Kong. Participants will engage in different interactive exercises to explore and reflect on their gender and sexual identities. By highlighting some particular challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, for example, micro-aggressions in daily interactions and a story from the victim of SOCE (Sexual Orientation Change Efforts), the seminar allows participants to learn the reality of the LGBTQ+ community and ways to become true allies and contribute to a gender-inclusive campus and society.

This workshop aims to educate students on the crucial aspects of sexuality and consent, emphasising the importance of clear communication and mutual respect in intimate relationships. Participants will learn to identify high-risk behaviours and express their emotions effectively. The session focuses on fostering an understanding of sexual consent, encouraging open-minded and non-judgmental dialogue. Additionally, the workshop will cover essential knowledge about safe sex practices, with a particular focus on the sexual health concerns of young women. Through interactive discussions and activities, students will acquire the skills to make informed decisions, ensuring their well-being and that of their partners. Description:

The seminar, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth, offers an insightful look into the lives of individuals with disabilities. Participants will engage in experiential activities and hear firsthand from those affected, enhancing understanding and empathy. The seminar covers the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, various disability categories, and the crucial role of caregivers. Through personal stories and reflective activities, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation of the challenges and resilience of people with disabilities. This seminar aims to inspire a more inclusive approach in participants, encouraging them to apply their newfound knowledge and empathy in their daily interactions and contribute to a more supportive community.

1. Gain insights into the lives and challenges faced by teens with rare diseases, disabilities, and mental illnesses;
2. Recognise the strength and perseverance of these teens in pursuing their dreams despite their health conditions;
3. Develop a deeper sense of empathy and awareness about the realities of living with an illness or disability; and
4. Reconsider and potentially transform their own perceptions and attitudes towards individuals with special health needs.

Description:

This Human Library workshop invites participants to engage in a unique and immersive experience where they will listen to and interact with teen patients who have rare diseases, disabilities, and mental illnesses. These young individuals will share their personal narratives, focusing on their experiences and challenges, as well as their participation in the "Together*Dreams Come True" project organised by Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Adolescent Medical Centre. This project has empowered them to pursue their dreams alongside volunteer partners. The workshop aims to foster empathy, understanding, and awareness among participants about the realities and resilience of these teens, breaking down stereotypes and misconceptions associated with illness and disability.

This workshop will introduce important information for student leaders in managing integrity of student societies. It's essential for the student leaders to protect the interests of its members. Students will explore the good meaning of good governance and how correct decisions can be made. Relevant HK Laws and tips on running a sustainable student society will be introduced during this workshop

1. Understand the concept of sexual harassment and avoid it in the context of University life; and

Description:

This workshop will introduce the concept of sexual harassment and identity behaviour which constitutes sexual harassment. Gender equality (Sustainable Development Goals no. 5) and relevant cases will also be shared with student leaders to understand the liability for sex harassment.

Objectives:

1. Learn about the National Security Law;

Description:

The talk will provide an overview of the National Security Law, share of relevant issues and examples, and discuss practical issues and concerns for student leaders when organising student activities.
