Overview

The Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports Coaching and Event Management is a self-financed, two-year top-up degree programme offered by the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.

The programme is designed for Associate Degree/Higher Diploma graduates, as well as athletes who aspire to pursue a career in sports event and sports coaching sectors.

The programme adopts an interdisciplinary learning approach aimed at enhancing the learning and teaching experiences of students. Various motifs relevant to the modern approach of sports coaching, including the integration of sports event management, and the incorporation of sports psychology into coaching, will be thoroughly studied within the two-year programme. Furthermore, students will be encouraged to critically reflect on concepts surrounding smart cities and its applications within the sports industry.

Career Prospects

Graduates of the programme may seek employment opportunities within a multitude of sectors, including civil services, national and international sporting associations, private enterprises specialising in sports and recreational services, event organisers, fitness clubs and many more.

Aims

The programme aims to provide quality training for students in areas of sports coaching and event management. Through the integration of practical, analytical and theoretical skills along with practical experiences, students will gain the necessary expertise in initiating and organising sports events and perform coaching duties in sports.

The objectives of this programme are to:

  1. provide students with practical and theoretical knowledge in sports coaching and event management;
  2. equip students with professional training in practising sports coaching and event management skills;
  3. develop the critical thinking ability of students through the integration of smart city concepts in sports;
  4. promote interdisciplinary approaches to address latest social needs in the demand for talents;
  5. prepare students for career development and progression in relevant disciplines.

Graduates of the programme will be able to:

  • apply a wide range of practical knowledge and skills in sports coaching and event management in a practical workplace setting;
  • identify and critically analyse ethical issues relating to sports coaching and event management;
