With an increasing number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus as the epidemic continues to spread, the University has decided to suspend further on-campus face-to-face classes up to and including Sunday 15 March 2020, while real-time on-line teaching and learning will be adopted from Monday 17 February.

The University management is considering various possibilities, including whether to extend Term 2 into the summer months and how to make up classes in order to safeguard the quality of our teaching and learning. These arrangements will be announced in due course.

As the HKSAR Government is imposing a 14-day mandatory quarantine on people entering Hong Kong from the Mainland from 8 February, the University strongly urges all students who are not already in Hong Kong, especially those on the Mainland, to stay where they are until the resumption of face-to-face classes.

To reduce the risk of infection, the University also strongly advises students in Hong Kong to stay at home or in their places of residence and not to return to the campus or hostels while classes are suspended.

The University has also decided to extend the “work from home” arrangement for staff members until Sunday 16 February 2020 (inclusive). However, to maintain the essential operations of the University, heads of academic and non-academic departments/units are advised to arrange for staff members to work in their offices providing basic and essential services by rotation, supplemented by flexible or staggered working hours, starting from Monday 10 February 2020.

The University continues to monitor and assess the situation and will introduce additional safeguards as and when necessary.
