This domain is to foster students to develop a positive living through enhancing their social skills, positive attitude, and self-understanding in managing emotions arising from pressures in different aspects of life. Students are encouraged to take an active part in improving our world by living in harmony with others. Programmes include self-exploration stress management, communication skills and leadership enhancement.

Description:

Many people have experienced emotional breakdowns in recent years as a result of a great deal of stress in the world. As a good friend or family member, you may wonder what you can do to better support them. It is important to remain supportive and understanding during their time of need. In this workshop, participants will gain a basic understanding of active listening and communication skills.

1. Learn the psychology of motivation in terms of motivational interviewing invented by well-known clincial psychologists William R. Miller and Stephen Rollnick;
2. Understand the elements of getting motivated and staying motivated in difficult situations; and
3. Learn how to practice the knowledge into daily life situations, such as relationships, study, and even addiction.

Description:

Have you thought of why some people like challenging themselves even though the 'mission' is super hard? Or have you tried to convince someone to change, like quitting an addiction and, slight changes in daily life patterns?
Sometimes it is not because people don't want to change, changes need steps and motivation. This seminar will equip you with what kinds of motivation we need to change and how we apply the mechanism into practice.

1. Have basic knowledge of: depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis and substance use disorder;
2. Address the possible crisis arising from these mental health problems and proceed with necessary intervention;
3. Provide suitable help for the person involved before the situation gets worse on the basis of the five steps; and
4. Learn about community resources and help the person involved to seek professional treatment and make use of suitable resources.

Description:

The Mental Health First Aid Course is a 12-hour course designed for students to understand and address mental health problems, and crises specific to adolescents. The training will be conducted by The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong.

Description:

As important as diet and exercise are to good health, having a good night's sleep also improves your brain's performance, mood, and physical well-being. The lack of sleep can lead to a weakened immune system, increased inflammation, and an increased risk of chronic diseases. It can also impair cognitive function, such as memory, concentration, and decision-making.

Description:

Finding moments of stillness and connection can be challenging in our fast-paced world. Nonetheless, the simple act of sipping tea offers opportunities for mindful awareness and sensory exploration. A mindful practice such as tea zen invites us to slow down, engage our senses, and to fully immerse ourselves in the present moment.

1. Learn several Alcohol Ink Art techniques; and
2. Learn to use creativity to increase awareness of self and be present in the moment.

Description:

Alcohol Ink Art is fluid art made by mixing alcohol with pigments in a healthy proportion. The ink is capable of creating colorful abstract collages or more intricate paintings. You can really relax and enjoy yourself when you are working with alcohol inks and watching them flow and form amazing patterns on the surfaces you are using.

Description:

In recent years, eating disorders patients in Hong Kong have been getting younger and younger. Colleges & universities are places nurturing this batch of young adults, where eating and body concerns are also common among them. In order to promote awareness and knowledge of eating disorders particularly amongst young people and to help them improve their self-esteem, the Hong Kong Eating Disorders Association (HEDA) initiate to carry out a body positive program at universities in Hong Kong.

2. Understand the power of 'real' listening when people are upset; and
3. Learn key communication skills that facilitate people's emotional expressions.

Description:

Have you tried to comfort your significant ones when they are really upset but it ended up hurting them? Have you tried to make all effort to cheer up someone but he/she finally hates you and ignores what you said?
Always, we will feel helpless if we try to talk to our friends, romantic partners or even family members who are having a hard time, but they finally push us away because we did say something that accidentally hurts their feelings. This seminar is to provide you with an in-depth understanding of what people need to hear when they are in difficulties and understand how practical listening skills are magical when they come in handy.

Expressive Arts Series

Objectives:
At the end of the workshop, students will be able to:

1. Increase self-understanding;
2. Experience how to apply expressive arts to convey and regulate emotions and feelings; and
3. Enhance well-being, self-care, emotional regulations, think positive, healthy relationship.

Description:

An experiential workshop to invite students to experience how to apply expressive arts modalities (including visual arts, music, writing, dancing and movement, and drama) to acknowledge emotions and regulate emotions and better manage stress.

One on one case to work with 1 specific participant to apply EXAT for alleviating current issues or enhance well-being based on individual needs. (Trauma cases will not be taken)

Description:

The workshop aims to introduce participants to the world of dance/movement therapy as a means of stress relief and emotional well-being enhancement. It provides a unique opportunity for students to explore the therapeutic benefits of dance, learn to communicate with their bodies, and practice self-care techniques. Through guided dance and movement activities, students will engage in a creative process that promotes physical, emotional, and social healing. This workshop also serves as a platform for students to make connections and foster friendships in a supportive and inclusive environment.

4. Learn effective strategies to support and empower people with mental health conditions, challenging the stigma and encouraging a more inclusive and understanding community.

Description:

The seminar, in collaboration with Mind HK's “More Than a Label” team, aims to address the labelling effect associated with mental health conditions and foster a deeper understanding of destigmatisation. Representatives from Mind HK, along with their ambassadors, will share personal narratives and insights, offering Lingnan students a comprehensive perspective on mental health issues. This seminar is structured to enlighten students about how they can contribute to destigmatising mental health and empower individuals living with mental health conditions to transcend beyond labels and societal stereotypes.
