Academic Expenses Grant for Students with Special Educational Needs (Community Care Fund)
The Commission on Poverty (CoP) approved the allocation of funds from the Community Care Fund for enhancing the academic expenses (AE) grant for post-secondary students with financial needs and special educational needs (SEN) including specific learning difficulties, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit / hyperactivity disorders, physical disability, visual impairment, hearing impairment, speech and language impairment and mental illness, etc for three years from the academic year 2018/19 to 2020/21. In 2019/20 academic year, each eligible applicant who has passed the means test under the Tertiary Student Finance Scheme - Publicly-funded Programme (TSFS) will be offered additional AE grant of up to $8,910. The actual amount of the subsidy receivable by an eligible students will be determined with respect to his/her level of assistance assessed in the means test of TSFS. The disbursement arrangement of the subsidy remains unchanged. In order to assess the eligibility of a student with SEN for the additional AE grant, apart from completing the application form for TSFS, the student concerned should also complete a request form to declare that they have at least one kind of the above-mentioned SEN and provide the relevant supporting documents.
