We are delighted to announce the launch of our first ever ‘Fair Trade Month‘ at Lingnan University in October! Hosted by the Centre for Cultural Research and Development (CCRD), this exciting series of events is designed to promote and explore the principles and practices of Fair Trade.
Throughout the month we have a variety of activities planned for ALL OF YOU. Here’s a sneak peek at what to expect:
Fair Day Talk | 6 Oct (Fri) | 11 am – 12:30 pm
Gain an insight into international Fair Trade principles, Fair Trade in Korea and how universities and communities work together to create Fair Trade Towns.
LingFAIR Fest | 10-11 Oct (Tue-Wed)
Mark your calendars as we transform SKYLIGHT into a Fair Trade festival! Try the Fair Trade drinks (FREE!) and have fun at the games and workshops. Don’t miss our mini forum on 11 Oct (Wed) at 1:30 pm where you can chat with Fair Trade experts!
LingFAIR Cafe | 10 Oct (Tue)
Visit our new Fair Trade Café – LingFAIR – in the library and enjoy ethical coffee and treats while supporting sustainability.
Handmade Bathbomb Workshop | 17 Oct (Tue)
Join us for a hands-on eco-friendly bath bomb workshop where you will learn about the sustainable ingredients and ethical production practices (more details to come!).
Movie Night | 26 Oct (Thur)
We will be screening an inspiring movie (stay tuned for more details!), so come prepared to be moved and motivated to make a difference in the global community!
We believe that Fair Trade can create a more just and sustainable world, and this month-long celebration is an opportunity to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Fair Trade principles and practices. We hope you will join us in making a positive impact on our campus and beyond!
- Programme 1: Fair Day Talk
We will kick off the first ever Fair Trade Month at Lingnan with a Fair Day Talk, a platform to share the principles, practices and stories of Fair Trade, and to discuss the perspectives of Hong Kong’s youth on this global issue.
You will learn about:
- International Fair Trade principles
- Fair Trade in Korea
- Collaboration between universities and communities for Fair Trade Towns
- Stories of producers
- Challenges faced by the Fair Trade movement

Speaker: Dr JEON Jiyun
She is currently a research fellow at the CCRD. Her research focuses on cooperatives, corporate social responsibility, corporate citizenship and fair trade. In Korea, she has worked as a visiting professor at Sungkonghoe University. She has been working for years with students and local Fair Trade groups to promote Fair Trade city movements. Before entering academia, she worked for a Korean social enterprise specialising in Fair Trade handicrafts, through which she established partnerships with Nepalese artisans.ILP units

17 Oct 2023 (Tue), 4:30 – 5:30 pmThe bath bomb is a natural blend of Fair Trade herbs and essential oils grown by small farmers for baths or foot baths. It helps to improve circulation, relax and relieve fatigue. You will learn about how Fair Trade helps small farmers and the benefits of natural herbs and essential oils for the body. Each participant can make a DIY bubble bath ball.

Fair Trade Month, a collaborative initiative of workshops and events, is hosted by the Centre for Cultural Research and Development (CCRD). This initiative involves university members, community participants and Fair Trade organisations.
