Course Design

The Lingnan Economics Department believes that undergraduate economics teaching should have two main objectives: to stimulate students' interest and thinking, and to demonstrate to students the power of economic analysis. In order to achieve these objectives, there is a need to focus more insight and intuition and less on intricate technicalities, more on context-based problem solving and less on pure mathematical manipulations. More advanced mathematical and technical training should be reserved for "specialist" courses for those who have adequate preparation and motivation to benefic from them. Accordingly, unless pre-designated as such specialist courses, all our courses will require no advanced mathematical calculations or manipulations.
