Professor Simon Li, Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Psychology, was invited by the Hospital Authority, HKSAR government to deliver a keynote talk in the “Hospital Authority Quality and Safety Forum 2018” on 5 November 2018 at the Lecture Theatre of the Hospital Authority Building.  This year, the theme of the Forum was “Quality Patient Care (Hi-tech vs Hi-touch) 仁心仁術”.  Professor Li’s talk was titled “Human Factors and Error in Healthcare”, which introduced human factors to a group of 200+ medical practitioners. Human factors is a discipline that strives to design effective and safe technology to support human’s capabilities and limitations. Professor Li’s talk highlighted the crucial role human factors plays in creating a technologically oriented and safe healthcare system. One of the key messages is that errors should not be viewed as faults of the human but products of inappropriately designed procedures or technology.
