The Shanghai-Hong Kong Future Leaders (Lingnan Elites) Internship Programme 2017 came to an end on 12 July.  Along with the celebration of the HKSAR’s 20th anniversary, 21 participating Lingnan students were invited to share the joy of various celebratory activities in Shanghai, in addition to the group visit to Alibaba in Hangzhou.  To thank all internship companies and supporting organisations, the programme’s organiser, the Hong Kong-Shanghai Economic Development Association (HSEDA) held a closing ceremony on 10 July.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Dr Terence Chan, committee member of HSEDA, Ms Victoria Tang, Director of the HKSAR Government’s Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai, and Ms Jenny Ko, Director of Student Services of Lingnan University.  Ms Ko delivered our hearty thanks to HSEDA, all participating enterprises and supporting organisations for the concerted efforts to make the internship programme a success.  Participating enterprises this year included Always (Shanghai) Marketing Services Co. Ltd., East Money Information Co. Ltd., Shanghai Media Group Limited, Shanghai Oriental DreamWorks Film & Television Technology Co. Ltd., Telford Wine & Spirits (Shanghai) Limited, Whaley and the newly joined Ipsos Business Consulting and Chongbang Group; whereas the supporting organisations included the Department of Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Shanghai Chinese Overseas Friendship Association, the HKSAR Government’s Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai and the Hong Kong-Shanghai Youth Exchange Promotion Association.

Our student representative Cheri Pong Cheuk-ling (Social Sciences Year 2) expressed her appreciation to the support from the University before sharing her remarkable work exposure as a news editor in “China Business Network” of Shanghai Media Group Limited.  Apart from job satisfaction, Cheri had embraced a better understanding of culture in Shanghai and was grateful to figure out both her strengths and career interest in the news industry through the internship.  The closing dinner ended in cheers and applause.
