Second graduation ceremony for “Navigation Scheme for Young Persons in Care Services”

The Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies has been working with Lingnan Institute of Further Education (LIFE) and Haven of Hope Christian Service (HOHCS) to deliver the “Navigation Scheme for Young Persons in Care Services” since November 2015.  The programme already has six intakes with its second graduation ceremony held on 29 September.

Ms FUNG Shuk-Man, Chief Social Work Officer (Elderly Branch) of Social Welfare Department of the HKSAR Government attended the ceremony and presented certificates to the students, together with other programme representatives including Prof Dickson CHAN Chak-Kwan, Director of Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies, Ms LEUNG Man-Ying, Principal of Haven of Hope Professional Training Institute and Ms SHING Sze-Wai, Assistant Director of LIFE.  Among the 19 graduates, five have obtained excellent student certificates.

Prof Chan pointed out in his speech that the shortage of manpower has adversely affected the quality of services for the elderly.  He was glad to see that the graduates will help tackle this serious welfare problem.  The “Navigation Scheme for Young Persons in Care Services” is financially supported by the Social Welfare Department, which provides job opportunities and on-the-job training for young people who aim to pursue a career in nursing care.  Lingnan is pleased to co-operate with HOHCS to nurture talents for the industry and help young people move up the social ladder.  Ms Kwok, Executive Manager of HOHCS praised the students for becoming more mature after completing the two-year training.  She encouraged them to make use of their own strengths and pursue a career in health care services.

Besides, the graduate representatives shared their learning experiences at the ceremony.  Although it was challenging to manage studies and work at the same time, they had successfully overcome the difficulty through effective time management.  They expressed gratitude for the opportunities to apply classroom knowledge and skills to the practical work settings, which help them handle tasks more efficiently.
