Shakuhachi music documentary featured in film series on chasing dreams

“Chasing the Dreams: Music and Gaming” is the latest film screening programme organised by the Core Curriculum and General Education Office and CNEX to promote general education. Two documentaries, Shakuhachi: One Sound One Life and Living The Game, were presented on 3 and 17 October respectively.

At the post-screening discussion of Shakuhachi: One Sound One Life, Dr Ip Kim-ho, Associate Professor of Practice of Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit, explained to the audience how powerful music, and even just sound, can be, as illustrated by the unique Japanese bamboo flute shakuhachi in the film.

Guest speaker, Haru, an exceptional shakuhachi player, showed his own shakuhachi and performed a short piece. He also explained how he had come across this unusual musical instrument.
