Promoting research links through global engagement

Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice-President and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Comparative Policy of Lingnan University, was invited by British Council as a speaker at the “Going Global Conference 2017” held in London from 22 to 24 May. 

 

Invited to speak at a panel session entitled “Is Internationalisation dead in a ‘post-truth’ age?”, Prof Mok, together with Prof Janet Beer, Vice-Chancellor, University of Liverpool, UK, Prof John Hudzik, Michigan State University, USA, Dr Nico Jooste, Senior Director, Office for International Education, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa, critically reflected upon how internationalisation of higher education has affected student learning, graduate employment and social mobility.  Lively and engaging discussions about the negative and positive aspects of internationalisation of education were unfolded in the session.  Prof Mok shared how students had benefited from international learning and regional outreach experiences at Lingnan University.  Prof- Mok also briefly highlighted how Lingnan engages and supports students for studying abroad.  The panel was supported by The Chronicle of Higher Education and chaired by its editor Liz Mcmillen.

 

Prof Mok was invited by the British Council to participate in the LSE Cities Forum to discuss issues related to “Capacity Building for City Leadership: The Role of Universities”. Distinguished speakers were invited to join the Forum including Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government.  At the Forum, issues related to unpacking the demand for city leadership, capacity building led by universities and its future opportunities were discussed.  Provoking conversations emerged throughout the forum.

 

During the visit to London, Prof Mok met with research partners from King’s College London and colleagues from the LSE Cities Centre to renew and build new research links for enhancing international research collaboration.
