Lingnan University hosted the “A Day at University” campus visit for over 100 students from 15 primary schools in Tuen Mun on 1 March, offering them the opportunity to experience the colourful campus life at the Hong Kong’s liberal arts university. The activity also strengthened the University’s connections with its neighbouring communities.

The event, which has been running for eight consecutive years, is co-organised by Lingnan University, Tuen Mun District Youth Programme Committee and Tuen Mun District Office as an activity under the 2018/19 “Strive for Success” Tuen Mun District Primary Students Award Scheme. It aims to encourage primary school students to accomplish goals set by themselves and establish positive values and life directions.

During the full-day event, students not only attended a lecture on “Elders in the Ocean” by Prof Jonathan FONG, Assistant Professor of Science Unit and its sharing session, but also participated in a lunch session with Lingnan students and a tour of campus facilities including the library, gymnasium and student hostels.

In her remarks at the presentation ceremony, Ms CHING Chi-Hung, Chairman of Tuen Mun District Youth Programme Committee said: “This year, 26 schools took part in the ‘Strive for Success’ Tuen Mun District Primary Students Award Scheme, in which a total of 256 primary five or six students received certificates of recognition. Among them, 140 from 15 primary schools joined the event today.” She expressed gratitude towards Lingnan for its support and coordination that furnished primary school students with first-hand experience to taste the learning journey at university. The participants were inspired to set early life aspirations.

Ms Jenny KO Lai-Fong, Director of Student Services pointed out in her remarks that driven by the motto of “Education for Service”, the University and students are dedicated to taking part in social services and transferring knowledge into practice. “The University will continue to collaborate with different organisations for diverse activities to nurture the next generations,” she added.
