Today (9 April), Lingnan University organised the Naming Ceremony of Wofoo Joseph Lee Student Activity Centre cum Establishment of Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre, at the Wofoo Joseph Lee Student Activity Centre located in the Multi-purpose Outdoor Sports Ground of the University, to honour Dr Joseph LEE, Chairman of Wofoo Foundation,for his generous donation in support of the establishment of Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre in the Department of Applied Psychology of Lingnan University to develop consulting and counselling psychology researches and associated services.

 

The University is honoured to have invited Prof Sophia CHAN Siu-Chee, Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Joseph LEE, Chairman of Wofoo Foundation, Mr IP Shing Hing, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Lingnan University, together with Prof Leonard K CHENG, President of Lingnan University, to officiate at the Ceremony.

 

In his welcoming remarks, Mr IP Shing Hing commended Dr Joseph LEE as an outstanding social entrepreneur dedicated to social well-being. “Dr Lee lives up to the motto ‘Harmony brings a family prosperity, Cohesion makes a nation wealthy’ and endeavours to promote civic engagement among different sectors. He also adopts corporate business practices into social services for a better allocation and utilisation of resources to benefit those in need,” said Mr IP.

 

Wofoo Foundation endeavours to advance youth development works and nurture the young generation to become future social leaders of high moral character. Dr Joseph LEE said, “Wofoo has been serving the society in the health-care-related area. By starting the Grace Nursing Home for the elderly since 1996, we hope to go beyond what we are doing now. And this can be reflected by our partnership with Lingnan University and the many other projects we are doing in this area.”

 

Prof Leonard K CHENG, President of Lingnan University said in his address that he expects the Research Centre to serve the community, to promote mental wellness and to make positive impact on the society through knowledge transfer. “In the future, the Centre will facilitate research works in the fields of consulting and counselling psychology with an innovative approach. Through active collaborations with schools, hospitals and other non-governmental organisations, it serves to raise public awareness towards children and adolescent mental health” he added.

 

Located on the second floor of B.Y. Lam Building at Lingnan University, Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre not only conducts research projects, but also offers psychological consulting and counselling services to students and psychological counselling courses to teachers and parents in the district.

 

Since last September, the Research Centre has been partnering with seven schools in Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai and Tuen Mun to organise regular training courses on counselling tactics for teachers and parents.

 

In recognition of Dr Joseph LEE’s generosity, the Student Activity Centre, a venue for all-weather sports and recreational activities located in the Multi-purpose Outdoor Sports Ground of Lingnan University, is named Wofoo Joseph Lee Student Activity Centre.
