LU alumna recognised by the Secretary for Home Affairs Commendation Scheme

2009 LU graduate Chloe Siu Pui-yee, Project Manager of the Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS), has been commended by the Secretary for Home Affairs Commendation Scheme for her long-term commitment to promoting community services and her contribution to society.

"In my current job, I am mainly responsible for LU’s gerontechnology and smart ageing projects, encouraging the elderly to ‘learn for life’, and promoting cross-generational activities in the community," Chloe explains. "I hope to play a part in the development of a sustainable society, and build a better gerontechnology ecosystem through collaboration with different stakeholders."

Chloe's enthusiasm for serving the community began at Lingnan. "The school motto ‘Education for service’, inspired me to try to become a good person. I still remember how the gerontology course I took while majoring in Social Sciences led me to understand Hong Kong’s ageing problems. And through service learning, I gained first-hand experience in local community issues, including youth and social welfare policies. After graduating, I joined LU where there was not only a strong team to work with, but also an innovative environment where I could try to accomplish a variety of different projects. My job also allows me to explore how universities, as community members, can play their role as educators and bring about far-reaching, beneficial change."

Chloe hopes that she can influence others to work for a better community together. "Elderly people have solid life experience and wisdom; young people have creativity; other people have resources and ability: through collaboration we all can create something better."

The Secretary for Home Affairs' Commendation Scheme commends citizens for their long-term dedication towards the training and development of youth in uniformed groups, distinguished community service, and support for culture and sports.
