LU extends social impact with private and public organisations promoting intergenerational coalition and gerontechnology

Supported by the Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, LU’s Institute of Policy Studies is collaborating with A Plastic Ocean Foundation and Lumivoce to promote intergenerational coalition for a better planet. The project offers interactive learning, site visits, and workshops in science, the arts, and well-being for New Territories grandparents and their grandchildren.

“Protecting biodiversity” is a 14-hour training workshop, explaining Hong Kong marine species, techniques to foster harmony between grandparents and grandchildren, and create love and compassion towards nature and wildlife through music and movement.

The LU Jockey Club Gerontechnology and Smart Ageing Project is also working with the Kwai Tsing District Health Centre (K&TDHC) on a series of community outreach events, and setting up a showcase for gerontech dementia products, which included a recent visit by members of the K&TDHC to the LU Jockey Club Gerontech-X Lab to gain first-hand experience of gerontechnology.

The Lingnan team then visited the K&TDHC to deliver talks introducing dementia-related gerontech products in line with the K&TDHC’s dementia screening tests for older adults. The talk provided an overview on how different gerontech products assist patients and caregivers daily. Attendees were enthusiastic about the products, and interested in learning more about gerontechnology.

In order to increase understanding of gerontechnoloy in the community, and the public’s awareness of dementia, the Project set up a dementia-themed gerontech product showcase for the public in the K&TDHC in September 2021.
