Internationalisation and engagement with mainland China are two of Lingnan University’s strategic development goals.  With this in mind, the University has reached agreements with Wuhan University (WHU) and Shenzhen University (SZU) to co-develop PhD programmes with the aim of enhancing student learning. Lingnan University will launch the following collaborative PhD programmes in September 2021.

LU x WHU Double PhD Degree Programme in Economics

LU Department of Economics will launch a double PhD degree programme in Economics in partnership with WHU.  Students joining the programme will spend two years at WHU mainly for coursework, and then two years at LU to conduct research.  Studentships will be provided.  When all the requirements of the double PhD programme are successfully fulfilled, students will be awarded PhD degrees in Economics from both LU and WHU.

The partnership will contribute to Lingnan’s strategic priorities regarding research and collaboration with renowned non-local institutions.

LU x SZU Joint Supervision for PhD Programmes in International Relations and Development Studies

Starting from the 2021 intake, LU School of Graduate Studies will collaborate with SZU to offer joint PhD supervision in the research area of International Relations and Development Studies. Provided with studentships, students will be under the joint supervision of a Chief Supervisor from LU and a co-supervisor from SZU and will be awarded a PhD degree in Political Science, Economics, or Sociology and/or Social Policy depending on their specific area of research.

The resulting synergy between the two universities will promote collaboration on strategy and research, and highlight collaboration between Hong Kong and cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Lingnan’s association with WHU and SZU enables students to draw on the unique research capabilities and facilities of each university, and expand their access to distinguished faculty members and experts.  Lingnan students will also spend one or two years of the study period in Wuhan or Shenzhen, thereby broadening their horizons.
