Lingnan University and Sun Yat Sen University cohosted a meeting for Strategic Partnership

Despite the global pandemic, Lingnan University has continued to strengthen its collaboration with Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). The collaboration covers various disciplines under a long-term partnership.

On 25 January, Professor Joshua Ka-Ho Mok, the Vice-President of Lingnan University and the Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Comparative Policy, hosted the annual cooperative development committee meeting between LU and SYSU. Professor Haipeng Xiao, Executive Vice-President of SYSU, the Dean of Lingnan College at SYSU, and leading faculty members and administrative units participated in the meeting, which was held online, to discuss future cooperation with the LU delegation. Representatives from LU included the Deputy Director of the Pan Sutong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute, and members of the Faculty of Business, School of Graduate Studies, and the Departments of Applied Psychology, Economics, History, Political Science, and Sociology and Social Policy. The Director of the Office of Global Education and Interdisciplinary Studies also attended.

The discussions covered a wide range of professional disciplines, including economics, finance and insurance, history, political science, psychology, sociology, social policy, and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Studies. The two institutions agreed to further enhance cooperation on a faculty level, and to collaborate more on joint research, funding applications, joint degree programmes, knowledge transfer, talent development, student and staff mobility programmes, and joint publications.

Prof Xiao noted that SYSU treasures the strong bond it has forged with LU, and said that SYSU is committed to promoting cooperation between the two institutions. He stressed that the collaborations should be target-oriented, and should stay in line with the strategies of the Central Government. Prof Mok echoed these comments by noting that further meaningful collaborations are expected around the topics of the development of the Greater Bay Area and the supportive government policies relating to cooperation between Guangdong province and the Hong Kong SAR. Prof Mok anticipated even more fruitful outcomes after the pandemic has been contained.
