識別自殺危機,建立健康心理訓練講座

Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness Training

 

Objective:

At the end of the training, students will be able to : 

1. Develop a positive mindset towards life;

2. Identify and assess the risk and protective factors of suicide; and

3. Equipped themselves with basic intervention skills in engaging and supporting fellow students and friends in need.

 

Description:

The training will first started off by providing students with an understanding of the epidemiology of suicide locally and worldwide.  For the next 30 minutes, the trainer will go deeper into our daily encounter with friends, focusing on suicide risk assessment, identification of warning signs and protective factors, intervention skills and case study.  As a final touch to the training, the importance of mental wellness will be introduced, interactive activities will be available and there is also a question and answer section where participants can freely raise questions.

Objective:

At the end of the workshop, students will be able to :

Acquire some basic understanding and skills in psychological first aid in traumatic events, so that participants after the course will be more prepared to render help when others are in need.

 

Description:

The workshop will introduce various common psychological reactions to traumatic events, and provide an overview of psychological first aid content.  Through the workshop, participants will be able to gain an understanding of empathy and sympathy, and thus will be more able to share someone else's feelings or experiences by imagining what it would be like to be in that person's situation.

Workshop on How to Control One’s Emotions when Running into Fury

 

Objective:

At the end of the workshop, students will be able to:

Understand emotions, and various ways to control one’s emotions when running into fury, through which to achieve wellness and positive energy growth in life.

 

Description:

The trainer will first introduce emotions, its definitions, and its inter-relationship with positive and negative ways of thinking, and how emotions will affect our wellness personally and at work.  The trainer will in the later part go deeper into anger management techniques and participants will learn how to control one’s emotions when running into fury.  Participants will learn through coursework training, case discussion and role play.  Video clips will also be used to support the training within the 2-hour session.

Mental Health Challenges and Barriers for Ethnic Minorities in HK

 

Objective:

At the end of workshop, students will be able to:

1. Enhance the understanding on characteristics, cultural and religious backgrounds of EMs in Hong Kong; and

2. Realise the mental health challenges faced by EMs.

 

Description:

Ethnic Minorities (EMs) may encounter racial discrimination and face social exclusion on multiple levels in Hong Kong. These barriers exacerbate the mental health challenges faced by EMs. This workshop provides a chance for students to understand the cultural and challenge that the EMs confronting. Welfare service and resources for EM will also be introduced.

Tips for Dealing with Loneliness

 

Objective:

At the end of talk, students will be able to:

1. Identify and targets the source of loneliness;

2. Discuss the relationship between loneliness and cyber culture; and

3. Share some strategies for tackling loneliness.

 

Description:

Some research found out that loneliness has been associated with increased Internet use. Anonymity and lack of face-to-face communication online may decrease self-consciousness and social anxiety. The talk is going to facilitate students to identify the reasons on feeling lonely, the social and psychological effects that may appear to internet users and discuss the methods on dealing with loneliness.

3. Identify the resources and name the channels and opportunities available for students to develop as good communicators and leaders

 

Description:

The whole idea of Toastmasters Training is to develop students' English speaking skills effectively through delivering prepared and impromptu speeches in front of groups and by working with others in a supportive atmosphere. Participants are also involved in providing feedback and evaluation to one another's presentation. Students who are keen to acquire further qualifications in public speaking and leadership can join the Lingnan University Toastmasters Club as international member, joining speech contests and workshops, and continue to work on personal and professional development through Toastmasters education program: the Pathways learning experience.
