Understanding Your Personality—MBTI & Decision Making Workshop

Objective:

At the end of the workshop, students are able to:

1. understand their individual personality type and uniqueness;
2. appreciate and respect other personality types; and
3. work out effective, efficient and balanced decision making with others.

Description:

Personality types can influence your certain behaviours, including your communication style and leadership tendencies.  This workshop will let you identify 16 personality types and how personality types affect your and your team mates’ decision making, including what factors they consider and what outcomes they value. By understanding the personality types on decision making, you will be enabled to reduce conflicts amongst your team mates and work towards more effective, efficient, and balanced decision making in your group work.

Through particpating in this series of workshops or activities, you will be enhanced to interact with others with effecive communication skills, confident public speaking and making friends easily.

Toastmasters Training for Public Speaking

Objectives:

 At the end of each session, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate the techniques required in English public speaking and refine it through constant practice.
2. Develop competent listening and evaluation skills for the delivery of constructive feedback.
3. Identify the resources  and name the channels and opportunities available for students to develop as good communicators and leaders
                                                                                                               

Description:

The whole idea of Toastmasters Training is to develop students’ English speaking skills effectively through delivering prepared and impromptu speeches in front of groups and by working with others in a supportive atmosphere. Participants are also involved in providing feedback and evaluation to one another’s presentation. Students who are keen to acquire further qualifications in public speaking and leadership can join the Lingnan University Toastmasters Club as international member, joining speech contests and workshops, and continue to work towards the Toastmasters Competent Communicator and/or Competent Leader award.

The English Conversation Series

Objectives:

At the end of activity, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate the techniques of English speaking, listening and vocabulary skills.

Description:

The ECS is a collection of one-hour group discussions aimed at improving students’ speaking, listening and vocabulary skills.  The ECS takes place during lunch, tea time and dinner and is a great chance to meet new friends!

Healthy Emotion Management Series

This series of workshops and activities will offer you effective ways to understand your emotion status and how to handle your emotions with positive attitude.

Life Lesson.Forgiveness (Cancelled)

Objective: 

At the end of the seminar, students will be able to:
1. Confront the complicated life, like stopping the beliefs and behaviours of self-harm and seeking for the hope and power of life to overcome the frustration suffered by surroundings;
2. Enlarge the perspectives on coping with various unforeseen setbacks; and
3. Learn the importance of adjusting their expectations, seeking help from others if needed and cherishing life.

Description:

By playing some short clips of the film(s), the speaker will introduce how to achieve a fulfilled life by forgiveness and analyse implications of film(s) in particular different characters. For example, adjusting expectations and facing adversities in a novel way, these perspectives can guide students on coping various setbacks and entering the world of life education in the context of film analysis.  The talk is supported by the Community Partner Foundation.

Enhancement Course on Emotional Intelligence

Objective: 

At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Understand emotions by learning its function, meaning and combination through relationship transition;
2. Develop the ability to identify and express emotions; and
3. Practice adaptive ways to handle emotions.

Description:

The importance of emotional intelligence (EI) is well recognized with supportive evidence showing its relationship with individual’s health and wellbeing, academic performance, social and occupational functioning as well as generic skills including communication skills, conflict management, leadership etc. The course can help students improve their EI level by enhancing inter-related competencies relating to perceiving, utilising, understanding and managing emotions in themselves and others for positive outcomes not only in career planning but also at different stages of life. Participants will discover self-change through test and interview, and the results shall be applied in research investigating the impact of training.

In Hong Kong, people are constantly busy adjusting and improving their life, work, and relationships. We are bound to feel stressed and may cause mental illness eventually. Mindfulness is a meditative practice of paying attention to your body, mind, and surroundings in a non-judgmental manner. Research studies have shown that mindfulness practice could reduce stress and equip us with more resilient against mental illness. Come and join us if you want to know more about mindfulness.
