Finding Harmony in Busy Student Life and Passionate Volunteer Work

Qianyu is a year-3 translation student who defies the odds by finding harmony between her busy student life and her passionate volunteer work. As a leader in a student society and a volunteer for charitable organizations, Qianyu has found a way to balance her commitments and make a difference in the world.

Weibozhili (微薄之力) is a non-profit organization that helps underprivileged children in hilly regions, and Qianyu has been involved since 2021. She has dedicated herself to various activities, including visiting children in Guizhou and launching crowdfunding efforts to provide warm winter clothing and gifts for the children. Qianyu’s commitment to Weibozhili is a testament to her love for helping others.

Another initiative that Qianyu has contributed her time and energy to is the Rujiang Project (汝將工程), which provides an open communication platform for students to seek guidance on how to maintain positive relationships with their family members and teachers, along with guidance on study plans. The project also includes teaching students about adolescent health and well-being. Qianyu’s dedication to the project shows her passion for guiding the next generation.

Also, Qianyu has put her translation skills to good use in the Lai Chi Wo project, which involves translating materials about the local history, scenic spots, and indigenous animal and plant species of the Lai Chi Wo area to promote its cultural and natural heritage to tourists. This project is an important part of conserving the cultural heritage of the area, and Qianyu’s contribution to it has been invaluable.

During her time at university, Qianyu played a key role in re-establishing the Translation Society for students and was elected as its president. Alongside other committee members, she organized end-of-semester goodies distributions for her cohort and is currently planning an orientation camp for new students. The aim of the camp is to help these students gain a better understanding of university life before they embark on their academic journey. We can’t wait to see what other exciting activities the society has in store for the coming year.

Despite her busy schedule, Qianyu has enriched her academic experience by taking a variety of courses, covering specialized translations, cultural studies, and theoretical subjects. These courses have equipped her with practical skills for her future career and broadened her horizons.

Looking ahead, Qianyu has several options in mind for her future, such as pursuing a JD degree to become a lawyer or legal translator, or studying abroad in fields like cultural exchange, linguistics or English, with the end goal of becoming a university teacher. Throughout her journey, she aims to continue her volunteer work, showing that her passion for helping others will always be a part of her life.

Qianyu’s story is an inspiration to all students who are struggling to balance their commitments. Her dedication and passion for volunteer work, education, and translation serve as an example for others to follow. With good time management and a positive attitude, students can successfully juggle different roles in their lives and still enjoy a fruitful youth.
