Creating an Impact: Lingnan Transfer Pricing Forum

To share the academic research insights from Lingnan University with the accounting industry, and to provide practitioners and professionals with an understanding of "transfer pricing", one of the industry's most sought-after topics, the Department of Accountancy of Lingnan University held a half-day event, 'Creating an Impact: Lingnan Transfer Pricing Forum' on 20 September, to facilitate sharing of the development updates in the related fields.

The forum was hosted by Prof. Zhang Yue, Associate Professor, Department of Accountancy of Lingnan University, as Prof. Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice President of Lingnan University and Prof. Nancy Su, Head of Department of Accountancy of Lingnan University were invited to deliver welcome speeches. During the keynote speech session, Mr. Kenny Wei, Partner at Transfer Pricing Services of EY Hong Kong introduced the laws related to the transfer pricing practice in Hong Kong, and shared his analysis on the cases in both Hong Kong and Mainland China; Prof. Agnes Lo, Associate Professor, Department of Accountancy of Lingnan University shared an overview of the transfer pricing practice in Mainland China and how the practice would be affected by a series of economical and political factors. She also discussed the impact of the disclosure of transfer pricing method on the company's stock price.

Prof. Richard Stanley Simmons, Professor of Teaching in the Department of Accountancy of Lingnan University, who specializes in the international and Hong Kong taxation, joined the round table discussion with William Wong, a Senior Tax Manager at one of the Big Four accounting firms, CF Wong, head of Singapore-listed GP Industries and George Zeng, CFO of KFMI Hong Kong to share key points on transfer pricing from the aspects of ethics in accounting and taxation, experience in the Mainland, and asset restructuring. About 75 industry practitioners, alumni, students and faculty members attended this forum.

In the Q&A session, the guests exchanged their views on questions about the Mainland transfer pricing practice, the impact of transfer pricing on other empirical operations of companies other than taxation, the establishment of think tanks, the increasing transparency of transfer pricing on various aspects of the company, and the internationalization of accounting education. Prof.Leng Mingming, Dean of Lingnan University Business School, delivered a closing speech and presented the awards to the guests.

 

Following the forum, a dinner banquet was organized for the forum attendants by Lingnan University and that offered an opportunity to exchange ideas with the academic sector, the accounting professionals and the practitioners. Those attending the forum are entitled to obtain four Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours.
