Cinema was introduced to Hong Kong by the end of 18th century. In the following 20 years, film exhibition was gradually introduced as a new business. Movie screenings, which were once regarded as a minor entertainment showing in gardens and opera theatres, became the major attraction. More movie theatres were then opened specifically for screenings. Most of the cinema houses were located in Sheung Wan and Central, the core district of Hong Kong's colonial administration. In this tour, we will visit those places where early theatres were built.
