Bug Wars against Food Waste

Banner for kick-off ceremony

In Hong Kong, food waste accounts for around 30% of all municipal solid waste, and a large volume is disposed of in landfill every day. This is directly contributing to climate change. How can we reduce food waste in an organic way on campus, in particular in student hostels?

You are cordially invited to attend the Kick-off Ceremony of "Bug Wars against Food Waste" Project co-organized by the Science Unit, Office of the Comptroller, Office of Service-Learning and Office of Student Affairs to learn new ideas for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals no. 2 Zero Hunger, no. 13 Climate Action and no. 17 Partnership for the Goals. This project is an exciting idea and innovative initiative to tackle the challenge of food waste at Lingnan University. It suggests using Black Soldier Flies to convert food waste into fertilizers which will contribute to the overall reduction of municipal solid waste.
