The Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office (TPO) of the Faculty of Business is organizing a TPg Career Week 2024 from 25 March – 28 March 2024, an annual signature event of the TPO aiming to provide you with much-needed support in your job search journey.
There will be a wide array of career-related activities, including the kick-off ceremony, a job fair, careertraining workshops, recruitment talks, alumni sharing sessions, dialogue with CEO, and consultation with programme directors cum CV clinic to enhance TPg students' employability and career prospects.
To gain access to the career week-related information, all current TPg students are automatically enrolled in a Moodle course "TPg Career Week 2024". The Moodle platform serves as a central depository of all the career week-related information, such as talks, videos, company introductions, job vacancies, etc.

Launch of TPg Career Week 2024
In an exciting commencement on the evening of 25 March 2024, Prof. SHI Shanshan, the Associate Dean (Taught Postgraduate Studies) and Director of the Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office at the Faculty of Business, proudly inaugurated the TPg Career Week 2024. Scheduled from March 25 to March 28, 2024, this hallmark annual event, hosted by the Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office (TPO), is dedicated to equipping students with essential resources and guidance for their career advancement.
This year’s theme, "Unlocking the Path to Starting a Great Career," sets the stage for an enlightening week. We are honored to welcome distinguished speakers such as Mr. Kenny WEI, Partner at EY Hong Kong’s Tax-Transfer Pricing Practice, and Ms. Fenghua ZHENG, Deputy General Manager of HR at Kingdee International Software Group Company Limited (金蝶国际软件集团有限公司) and Executive Dean of Kingdee Business School. They offered invaluable insights from their vast experiences in the business and HR realms, respectively.
Insights from EY Team:
Mr. Kenny WEI, a Lingnan University alumnus in 2003, kicked off the sharing session by discussing his journey into the accounting sector. He encouraged students to leverage their unique strengths and the dynamic opportunities in Hong Kong to forge successful careers. Highlighting the critical elements for success - attitude, brainpower, and communication skills - he provided a foundational blueprint for students to follow.
Ms. Sinny ZHAO, Manager at EY Hong Kong’s Tax-Transfer Pricing Practice, shared her personal story, focusing on overcoming challenges, her decision to join EY, and her educational journey in Hong Kong. Her practical advice on excelling in interviews, including thorough preparation, professional self-awareness, and confidence, offered students a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to succeed.
Ms. Soya FAN, a Master of Accountancy (MAcc) alumna from Lingnan University, discussed her academic and professional journey, shedding light on the nuances between audit and transfer pricing. She highlighted the importance of communication skills and encouraged students to stay informed through the programme office for successful job hunting.

Ms. ZHENG Fenghua also led her team, including Ms. Bell ZHENG, HR Director of HR & Admin Department, and Mr. Nelson LEE, Sales Manager of Sales & Business Division, Kingdee International (金蝶国际软件集团有限公司), and delved into the intricacies of the human resources system at Kingdee International. Through a detailed analysis and introduction of the STAR interview method, she revealed key strategies for job hunting success. Further elaboration on resume assessment and interview evaluation provided students with a clear understanding of what employers look for in potential candidates.
The opening day concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where speakers addressed a broad spectrum of student inquiries about career paths, showcasing the event's impactful start. The enthusiasm and participation from students underscored the anticipatory excitement for the upcoming activities during TPg Career Week 2024.

On the second day of TPg Career Week 2024, the Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office at the Faculty of Business hosted a series of job fairs and recruitment talks, marking a significant opportunity for students to engage with industry leaders and recruiters. These events were tailored to provide insights into the current job market, unveil diverse career prospects, and facilitate direct networking with potential employers.
Job Fair Highlights:
The job fair, held at Kin Sun Square (Skylight) on 26 March 2024, saw participation from over 13 esteemed companies, offering students a platform to explore various career paths. Prof. SHI Shanshan, Associate Dean (Taught Postgraduate Studies) and Director of the Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office, of the Faculty of Business, and Prof. GAO Jin, Associate Directors of the Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office of the Faculty of Business, extended a warm welcome to all participants, acknowledging their crucial role in bridging the gap between education and industry.

They shared invaluable information about their organizations, industry trends, job vacancies, and application processes, highlighting the plethora of career development opportunities within their companies.

This event provides a precious opportunity to consult with our esteemed Programme Directors, Prof. SHI Shanshan, Prof. YAN Aihua, Prof. GAO Jin and Prof. Nina XIE, who are leaders in their respective fields. These experts possess a wealth of knowledge and experience that can empower you to make informed decisions and accelerate your career growth.
The third day of TPg Career Week 2024 unfolded with a series of invaluable sessions aimed at preparing students for their professional journeys. The Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office of the Faculty of Business (TPO) curated a blend of one-on-one consultations, CV clinics, and alumni sharing sessions, providing a comprehensive support system for job-seeking students.
Kicking off the day, students were given the unique opportunity to engage in personal career consultations with esteemed programme directors. We were honored to host Prof. Nina XIE, Programme Director of the Master of Science in Arts Technology and Business (MScATB), Prof. YAN Aihua, Programme Director of the Master of Science in eBusiness and Supply Chain Management (MSceBSCM), and Master of Science in Marketing and International Business (MScMIB), Prof. GAO Jin, Programme Director of the Master of Science in Finance (MScFin) and Master of Science in Risk and Insurance Management (MScRIM), who offered their expertise in career planning and industry insights. These sessions were tailored to students' individual aspirations, equipping them with strategic advice for career development and interview preparation.
Alumni Sharing (27 March, 6:30PM - 8:15PM, MBG01)
TPg graduates from respective programmes are invited to share their challenges, difficulties, experiences in their job-hunting journey and career path after their graduation. They will also share valuable insights and tips to their fellow peers who would like to land a job or advanced studies in Hong Kong, Mainland and overseas respectively.
With graduation approaching, students may experience anxiety and concern about their future. TPO is honoured to have invited 6 alumni to share their challenges, difficulties, and experiences during their job-hunting journey after graduating. They have also shared valuable insights and tips with their fellow peers who would like to land a job or pursue advanced studies in Hong Kong and Mainland.
Understanding the pressures and uncertainties faced by nearing-graduation students, TPO invited six distinguished alumni back to share their post-graduation experiences. Their stories highlighted perseverance, strategic planning, and the importance of leveraging available resources.

Ms. CHEN Wen, an Alumna of MAcc, shared her workplace survival skills and experience of job hunting. She emphasized the importance of providing an explanation based on the specific circumstances after careful consideration.

Ms. HE Qian, an Alumna of MFin, shared her academic journey and the pressures associated with pursuing a PhD degree. Additionally, she provided valuable advice on effective stress relief techniques to help students alleviate the pressures.

Mr. PAN Yewen, an Alumnus of MScMIB, shared numerous important information about working and living in Hong Kong, including Housing, Transportation and Visa. He expressed sincere gratitude to Prof. YAN Aihua, the Programme Director of the MScMIB, for offering him the opportunity to intern at Yue Hwa Chinese Products Emporium Ltd.

Ms. WAN Lai Kuen, an Alumna of MScBIE, shared her entrepreneurial stories. Despite achieving success in her career, she decided to return to university for further studies. She expressed special gratitude to Lingnan University for providing abundant resources and opportunities. Lastly, she encouraged students with the belief that anything is possible.

Ms. HOU Lin, an Alumna of MScHRMOB, shared many experiences of job interviews. She encouraged students not to fear rejection and failure, but to face them with a calm mind. Reflecting on and summarizing experiences is even more important. She also hopes that students can maintain a lifelong learning mindset and remain sensitive to new knowledge and skills.
These alumni testimonials not only offered practical advice but also served as a source of motivation for current students, illustrating diverse pathways to success.

The Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office of the Faculty of Business concluded the TPg Career Week 2024 with a highly anticipated session, "Dialogue with CEO," on 28 March 2024. This event stood out as a remarkable finale to a week filled with enriching career development opportunities for students.
Engaging Insight with Mr. Calvin TSANG:
We were privileged to host Mr. Calvin TSANG, Chairman of Esquel China Holdings Ltd., along with his assistant, Mr. Timmy LI, for an engaging and enlightening dialogue. Mr. Tsang, who oversees the operations and strategic initiatives of Esquel Group in China, shared his wealth of knowledge and experience in leading a global innovation-driven company renowned for its commitment to sustainable development in the textile and apparel industry.
Through captivating stories and insights, Mr. Tsang encouraged students to consider their passions and potential career trajectories. He highlighted how Esquel Group's ethos of innovation and sustainability is encapsulated in their "Integral — Esquel's Sustainable Development Garden," providing a tangible example of how businesses can integrate sustainable practices into their core strategies.

Meanwhile, students actively asked questions to Mr. Tsang, especially those in the Master of Science in Environmental, Social, and Governance Management Programme. They seized this rare opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of career paths in sustainable development.
The session sparked keen interest, particularly among students from the Master of Science in Environmental, Social, and Governance Management (ESGM) Programme, who eagerly engaged with Mr. TSANG. Mr Kenny Wei took the lead in sharing his stories of entering the accounting industry after graduating from Lingnan University in 2003, how he strives to accomplished his goals, and how he faced the SARS in 2003 and the financial crisis in 2007-2008, thereby encouraging students to develop career goals, achieve their dream jobs, and grasp Hong Kong’s advantage of integrating cultural diversity to unlock the path to starting a great career.

It was followed with the sharing by Ms Sinny ZHAO, Manager of EY Hong Kong’s Tax-Transfer Pricing Practice. She told her formative experience, the story of joining EY after facing setbacks, and her reasons for studying in Hong Kong. She Introduced Ernst & Young's on-the-job training and career development with her exchange experience, encouraging everyone to take advantage of learning opportunities in the workplace to achieve self-enhancement.

Ms ZHENG Fenghua analyzed the structure of the human resources system in detail, especially the secrets of success in job hunting with the introduction of the STAR interview method.
She further explained in detail the standard for evaluating interviewees from the wording of the resume and the conversation in the interview, measuring the job suitability from all aspects, and hiring the most qualified talent.
Ms ZHENG Fenghua also highlighted several key points that needed to be considered:
1. Salary is difficult to predict accurately, we need to reflect on our value proposition, increasing salary through excellent performance rather than negotiation;
2. Applicant should be concerned about improvements, enjoying any achievements during the job-search journey;
3. Interviewers also value the interviewer's work motivation.
The kick-off session was concluded by the question-and-answer session, speakers received enthusiastic responses, answering pouring questions from students, including the differences in the recruitment process between Chinese companies and overseas enterprises, and job-hopping.
Besides, Mr Harry HO, the General Manager of Kingdee International Software Group (HK) Ltd., introduced its background and job opportunities to students. Colleagues from the human resources department even collected students’ resumes on-site, which is a rare opportunity that must not be missed!

To provide more job information to students, representatives from four companies, including AIA International Limited, Goodwin Health Care Limited, Prudential Hong Kong Limited, and Reanda Lau & Au Yeung (HK) CPA Limited, were invited to deliver recruitment talks, shared company background, industry insights and information of job vacancies and application procedure on the afternoon of March 31. Ms Jane LEE, an Alumna of the Master of Science in Marketing and International Business (MScMIB), provided tips on preparing for job hunting in Hong Kong, and encouraged students to leverage existing resources from Lingnan University. She concluded the sharing by providing an in-depth analysis of the cultural differences in the workplace between Hong Kong and Mainland China, such as a fast-paced office environment, close communication with colleagues, and supportive attitude on expressing opinion for employees.

On 6 April 2023, we are pleased to invite Mr Allan LEE, Human Resources Professional, Career Coach and Certified Psychoanalyst, to provide a detailed analysis of preparing impressive CVs and job interviews. He pointed out the importance of personal branding and story-telling in building your resume, Mr Allan LEE further encourage students to mention more experience in extra-curricular activities instead of grades to present more personalities for employers.
Mr Allan LEE also shared five hiring trends and ten talent trends in Hong Kong. He suggested students be well-prepared to address opportunities, including mastering tech skills and focusing on ESG issues. Ultimately, Mr Allan LEE concluded the career workshop with Kazuo Inamori’s success formula, emphasising the importance of positive thinking.

On April 4, during the kickoff of the TPg Career Week 2022, Mr Kenny Wei, the partner of EY Hong Kong’s Transfer Pricing practice, will share some tips on managing a successful career. Career training 1 & 2 (March 30 & April 1):
These two events aim to sharpen your CV writing skills and offer tips on how to shine in job interviews. We are glad to invite the HR Director from Kingdee China (金碟国际软件集团有限公司) on March 30 (Tuesday) and Mr Allan LEE, Associate Director- Banking & Finance Divison from Hong Kong Job Consulting on April 1 (Thursday) to share tips the interviewees need to pay attention to during the job interviews from HR professional’s perspectives.
Recruitment talk (March 31) *:
Five companies are invited to give the recruitment talks. Each participating company will share the company background and discuss the job requirements of its available vacancies, if any, in a 20-25 minute timeslot. The event offers a valuable chance for you to interact with the prospective employers.

Alumni Sharing 1 & 2 (April 7 & April 8):
In TWO consecutive evenings, we invite TEN recent TPg graduates from respective TPg programmes to share with you their challenges, difficulties and experiences in their job hunting journey. They will also share valuable insights and tips to their fellow peers who would like to land a job in HK and in the Mainland respectively.
