Lingnan University and University of Oxford Co-host Postgraduate Summer School 2024

Lingnan University and the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom have co-hosted the Postgraduate Summer School 2024. The hybrid postgraduate Summer School commenced on 25 June at Lingnan University, attracting over 150 postgraduate students from universities both locally and internationally. Over 40% of the participants this year are international students, hailing from various countries and regions including China, the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Korea, India, Turkey, Taiwan, Belgium, Australia, and Pakistan. Additionally, 70% of the attendees are from local universities, not only Lingnan University but also the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Education University of Hong Kong, and The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. This blend of local and international participants makes our summer school truly global and dynamic.

The Summer School spans three weeks, commencing on 25 June and concluding on 13 July 2024. The first week (25 June - 28 June) takes place at Lingnan University, followed by a two-week session (30 June - 13 July) at Hertford College, University of Oxford. Among the participants, 25 outstanding postgraduates will have the opportunity to continue their learning journey with a two-week stay at the University of Oxford.

 

This programme offers a valuable platform for scholars and postgraduate students to engage in academic exchange and research collaboration, aiming to broaden participants’ academic horizons beyond traditional discipline-based exploration.

“This platform is designed with academic and professional growth in mind. More importantly, we hope it will ignite postgraduate students’ passion for knowledge and drive them to push the boundaries of their respective fields,” said Professor Sam KWONG Tak Wu, Associate Vice-President (Strategic Research), J.K. Lee Chair Professor of Computational Intelligence, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, and Acting Dean of the School of Data Science. In his welcoming remarks, Professor KWONG highlighted that this collaborative initiative promotes not only international academic exchange but also helps postgraduate students establish research networks and explore new avenues for interdisciplinary collaboration. We look forward to engaging discussions and the development of lasting connections among our global community of scholars.

Through eight professional workshops and seminars led by renowned scholars from Australia and Hong Kong—such as Professor Bingqin LI from the University of New South Wales, Professor Tinashe DUNE from Western Sydney University, Professor Tobia FATTORE from Macquarie School of Social Sciences, Dr. Gill MAIN from Social Research Collective, Professor Boris CHOY from the University of Sydney, Professor Paulina WONG, Mr. Jeremiah TEO, and Mr. Ryan WINDSOR from Lingnan University—participants delved into diverse research methodologies, data analysis techniques, and effective communication strategies.

About Postgraduate Summer School

The Postgraduate Summer School is an annual flagship programme co-organised by Lingnan University and University Oxford. This year, the Postgraduate Summer School partnered with the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and the International Classroom for Postgraduate Research Methodology Enhancement project, with the generous sponsorship from the University Grants Committee.
