Partnering with the Best: Strategic Partnership for Research and Postgraduate Studies

 

With a strong commitment to further enhance international learning and research collaboration, Lingnan University is actively seeking strategic partnership with leading universities for enhancing postgraduate studies and international research collaboration. Most recently, Professor Ka Ho Mok, Vice President and Director of School Graduate Studies and Dr Raymond Ng, Director of Community College and Institute of Lifelong Learning, visited a few leading universities in the United Kingdom exploring deep cooperation. During their visits, Professor Mok joined the signing ceremony to establish double master degree programmes for Master of Science in International Banking and Finance with Leicester University. Professor Paul Boyle, President and Vice-Chancellor of Leicester University, together with his senior colleagues Professor Zoe Radnor, Dean of School of Business and Professor Clive Fraser, Professor of Economics, warmly welcomed the delegation of Lingnan University."We consider Lingnan University as a strategic partner and would like to extend our cooperation not only in dual international masters but also PhD student exchange and international research cooperation in business, social sciences and humanities that Lingnan University excels", said Professor Boyle.

 

After visiting Leicester University, Professor Mok and Dr Ng made official visits to University of Leeds (being awarded the University of the Year 2017), University of Stirling, King's College London, UCL Institute of Education, University of Bath and Bath Spa University to foster strategic partnerships. All these universities have agreed to work with Lingnan University in the following areas:
 

  • Establishing Undergraduate and PhD Student Exchange
  • Fostering Staff Exchange and Research Collaboration
  • Co-developing International Master and Professional Doctorate Degrees
  • Co-offering executive and professional training programmes
  • Providing Undergraduate Education programmes articulating with LU Sub-degree programmes

 

Professor Simon Marginson, Director of the Centre for Global Higher Education, UCL Institute of Education, remarked that"we welcome the opportunity to develop PhD student exchange and deepen our strategic research collaboration with colleagues from Lingnan University in Hong Kong". While we have already established academic exchange for undergraduate students, the University of Leeds and University of Stirling are keen to extend the student exchange programme to the PhD level. Professor Gerry McCormac, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of University of Stirling in Scotland, when welcoming the delegation and said,"we treasure the strategic partnership with Lingnan University, we are keen to deepen international research cooperation, articulation of international master programmes and even co-developing professional doctorate programmes with Lingnan University in near future".

 

On 29 September 2016, Professor Ka Ho Mok was invited to give a seminar at the UCL-IOE Centre for Global Higher Education in London with a theme on"The Quest for World-class University Status: Implications for Sustainable Development of Asian Universities". In his talk, Professor highlighted the unique role of liberal arts education in Asia, especially arguing the importance to bring the humanities and value back in education, critically engaging in the quest for excellence with a soul. The talk was well-received and broadcasted widely in the UK.
