Faculty-level Committees

Terms of Reference

  1. To be responsible to the Senate for the academic standards and quality assurance of the programmes and courses (both undergraduate and postgraduate) offered by the Faculty and to report thereon to the Senate from time to time;
  2. To endorse new programme proposals, departmental annual programme reports and 5-year programme reviews;
  3. To provide a forum to stimulate academic development, and research and knowledge transfer activities of the Faculty;
  4. To set up committees, task forces and working groups as appropriate in support of the academic and quality assurance work of the Faculty; and
  5. To perform any other duty as may be required by the Senate.

 

Membership

  • Chairperson: Dean of the Faculty of Arts
  • Members: 
    • All regular faculty members who are full-time employees of the University
      (For the Faculty of Arts, members shall include all regular faculty members of the 7 academic departments plus the Heads of the two language centres.)
    • One undergraduate student elected by and from undergraduate students in the Faculty
    • One postgraduate student elected by and from full-time research/taught postgraduate students in the Faculty
  • Secretary: To be appointed by the Dean

Terms of Reference

  1. To discuss issues and polices related to the planning, development and operation of the Faculty and to make decisions where appropriate;
  2. To endorse major revisions* to undergraduate Arts programmes, new programme proposals, departmental annual programme reports and 5-year programme reviews; 
  3. To review and/or plan undergraduate admission strategies to enhance students recruitment;
  4. To monitor Arts departments’ fulfilment of the Key Performances Indicators of the University Accountability Agreement and the Strategic Plan of the University. 

* Major revisions are defined by the AQAC in the Chapter 5 of Academic Assurance Manual. For minor revisions, Department Boards have to submit the proposals to AQAC directly.

    • Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning)
    • Associate Dean (Research & Postgraduate Studies)
    • All Heads of Departments and Language Centres
  • Secretary: A staff member of the Faculty Office

Terms of Reference

  1. To assess project proposals applying for Faculty Research Grant, Conference Grant and Direct Grant to report the funding results to the Research Committee, subject to availability of fund.
  2. To be responsible to the Postgraduate Studies Committee for issues relating to the admission, studentship, progression and graduation of research postgraduate students, as well as the appointment of supervisors for research postgraduate students.
  3. To monitor and give advice to taught postgraduate programmes in the faculty (if needed).

 

Membership

  • Chairperson: To be nominated by the Dean and appointed by the Chairmen of Research Committee and Postgraduate Studies Committee
  • Members:
    • Heads of Departments of Arts
    • One research postgraduate student elected among themselves^
  • Secretary: A staff member of the Faculty Office

# The main roles of Chairperson are to convene and chair the meetings of RPSC. The Chairperson does not vote unless it is necessary to break a tie.

 

^The student member shall be full members of RPSC and attends the meeting for agenda items relating to research postgraduate matters, except those the Chairperson considers confidential.

Terms of Reference

  1. To share good practices with respect to admission, development and promotion;
  2. To advise on matters related to 5-Year programme reviews and new programme proposals;
  3. To report to RPSC in Arts on ad hoc matters relating to TPg programmes in Arts.

  • Chairperson: Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning)
  • Members: Programme Directors and Associate/Deputy Directors of Taught Postgraduate Programmes in Arts
