BA (Hons) Contemporary English Studies (Graduated in 2016)

In a classroom environment with an open learning atmosphere that welcomed new ideas, I was always encouraged to think out of the box and this cultivated my creativity and critical mind.

My three-year journey in the Department of English unleashed my critical thinking, sharpened my sensitivity to language and opened my eyes to a wide variety of social issues, including but never limited to improvement of language ability.

Throughout my time spent in the department, a wide range of linguistics and literature courses offered me lots of insights into the power and significance of language. I realized the beauty of English language as well as the indispensable relationship between language, society and people. The well-organized programme, rounded off by the Final Year Project, were like a magnifier, shedding light on cultural and social matters of different places in the world. In a classroom environment with an open learning atmosphere that welcomed new ideas, I was always encouraged to think out of the box and this cultivated my creativity and critical mind.

After graduation, I moved forward to pursue a Master of Arts in English and Applied English Linguistics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, so as to further enrich my knowledge.

I am currently working as a Learning and Development Officer. Besides being responsible for managing various training programmes with my team for my fellow colleagues, I will be tasked with assisting in the design and delivery of workshops on English writing and presentation skills in the near future.

Undoubtedly, being an English major at Lingnan has helped me to embark on my career in adult learning and vocational training. My learning experience in the Department has given me strong fundamentals for being a competent language trainer.
