Lingnan University Helps Steer the Launch of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Psychology Alliance

Lingnan University has recently accepted the invitation of Sun Yat-sen University to join as a founding member and help steer the launch of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Psychology Alliance, a professional alliance operating under the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance (GHMUA).

 

The objectives of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Psychology Alliance are to facilitate exchanges and foster collaborations among member institutions, thereby advancing the frontiers of knowledge in psychology, better serving society, and bringing about some positive impact on regional development. Planned activities include an annual academic conference, research collaborations, co-construction and sharing of course materials, faculty and student exchanges, as well as co-supervision of students. 

 

Lingnan University, known for its excellence in the field of psychology, will serve as a valuable and resourceful member of the alliance. On the other hand, through participating in this collaborative venture, Lingnan will benefit from capacity building in research and education, and enhanced visibility and recognition in the academic community.     

 

Apart from Lingnan University and Sun Yat-sen University, there are six additional universities in the Greater Bay Area joining as the founding members of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Psychology Alliance. They are South China Normal University, Shenzhen University, Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong and University of Macau. The formal establishment of the alliance is scheduled for July this year.

 

Established in 2015, GHMUA seeks to foster exchanges and collaborations among the higher education institutions in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau. Currently, there are 37 member institutions and 11 professional alliances, covering a wide range of academic disciplines including humanities, science and technology to medicine, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship.

 

Prof Siu Oi Ling, Lam Woo & Co Ltd Chair Professor of Applied Psychology and Head of Department of Psychology, will be Lingnan’s lead representative in planning the establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Psychology Alliance. She has, on behalf of Lingnan University, attended the “First Conference on the Development of Psychology Discipline in the Greater Bay Area” in Zhuhai hosted by Beijing Normal University on 14 January. The conference brought together leaders of psychology discipline from higher institutions and research organizations in China and the Greater Bay Area to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the development of psychology in the new era.
