Visit by the Guangming District, Shenzhen delegation led by Standing Committee Member Ms. Yang Li

A delegation from Guangming District of Shenzhen, led by Ms. Yang Li, Standing Committee Member of the Committee of Guangming District and Minister of United Front Work Department, visited Lingnan University on 22 November. They were received by Professor Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science, Professor Chen Xi, Dean and Chair Professor of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies, and Professor Paulina Wong Pui-yun, Head of the Science Unit. The two parties had a fruitful discussion on the preeminent disciplines of Lingnan University and the potentials for collaboration in industry, education and research. 

President Professor Qin extended a warm welcome to Ms Yang and her delegation. He introduced to them the latest development of Lingnan University and said that Lingnan University would set up the School of Data Science and the Institute for Advanced Study in the near future, and that the two sides could collaborate in the areas of big data, artificial intelligence, energy storage and sustainable development. Professor Chen and Professor Wong also introduced to the delegation their respective research areas and achievements.

Ms. Yang Li, Standing Committee Member of the Committee of Guangming District and Minister of the United Front Work Department, thanked President Professor Qin for his warm reception. She shared the current development of Guangming District in detail and said the two sides could collaborate in the areas of students' research and study, internships, business incubation and industrialization.  She also welcomed the faculty members and students of Lingnan University to visit Guangming District for exchanges and exchange.

During the visit, the Institutional Advancement and Public Affairs Office of the University conducted a campus tour for the delegation and they visited the Chamber of Young Snow Art Exhibition Hall and the Office of Service-Learning. 

The delegation also included Mr. Wang Jianrong and Mr. Chen Yuanzhong, both are Vice Ministers of the United Front Work Department of the Guangming District; as well as Mr. Li Donghui and Ms. Gan Xinyue, Head of the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Section of the United Front Work Department of the Guangming District. Ms Joanne Cho Wai-tak, Head of Office of the President, and Ms. Ivy Shen Tingting, Head of the Office of Mainland Development from Lingnan University also joined the discussion.
