A year studying at Lingnan University MHSM prgogramme is undoubtedly an eventful one. MHSM not only has course instructors explaining basic knowledge to us, but also provides various offline visits and academic activities. For example, we visited the Jockey Club Smart Ageing Hub at Lingnan University and Polytechnic University, and participated several social work activities in nursing homes, which allowed us to combine knowledge with practical applications. The two academic seminars Interdisciplinary Learning and LU-HKSTP Gerontechnology Symposiusm expanded my academic horizons and added many new ideas to my study and research. One Day Tour in Kat O Island allowed me to see the pleasant side of life in Hong Kong.

After graduation, I chose to stay at Lingnan University.   MHSM programme at Lingnan University not only improved my knowledge, but also gave me clear goals for my future personal development.

This year in the Lingnan MHSM programme brought many new experiences. Despite brief class times, I've grown immensely. The "course paper" experience, from topic selection to independent completion under teacher guidance, differs notably from undergraduate studies, emphasizing self-reliance. This compensated for my regrets from my undergraduate years.

This challenging year led me to document my life as a YouTuber, securing my first job post-graduation. Although different from my studies, critical thinking skills from graduate school facilitated rapid career progress. Engaging in school-organized activities enriched my social experience. Participating in the "Alternative Coffee Experience Activity" during summer provided a unique perspective on coffee and fair trade, concluding my academic journey successfully.

In summary, this year at Lingnan marks a significant milestone in my life, transitioning from academia to professional career.

By studying in the Master of Social Sciences in Health and Social Services Management (MHSM) program at Lingnan University,  I mastered the knowledge related to health and social services while also expanding my vision and abilities. In this program, I learned various theoretical knowledge, including health service management, social service management, social policy, medical ethics, comparison of Chinese and Western medicine, etc. I understood the importance and methods of using Chinese medicine knowledge to help the elderly prevent diseases and strengthen their health in social services. I also visited the elderly by applying the theory and practice of gerontechnology products, and felt the practical significance and challenges of social services. I think the most important thing is that through learning, I felt that the program attached great importance to training our management team skills, enhancing my communication skills, collaboration skills, and innovative thinking, which laid a solid foundation for my work in the Alumni Relations Team of Lingnan University after graduation.

During my studies, I also actively participated in various activities organized by the school, demonstrating my social responsibility and leadership. I was enthusiastic about volunteering and participated in the volunteers of the disabled marathon, providing companionship and support for the disabled; when the New Year was approaching, I also took the initiative to participate in volunteer services to send New Year gifts and blessings to the elderly, making them feel warm and cared for. During my studies, I was awarded the Hong Kong Jockey Club Gerontechnology Community Care Action Youth Ambassador, which was recognition of my contribution and efforts in the field of gerontechnology. I was also the student assistant of my supervisor’s cooperative project between Shenzhen University and Lingnan University, assisting the supervisor in data collection and analysis, and improving my research skills. In addition, I was also the student representative of the MHSM class, responsible for the affairs and activities of the class, and the promotional officer of the Lingnan University Postgraduate Student Association, responsible for the publicity and promotion of the graduate student association, enhancing my organizational skills and influence.

MHSM brought me a lot of gains and growth, making me a more comprehensive and excellent person.Through the liberal arts education environment of Lingnan University, the teachers guided us to speak actively and innovate bravely, so my English ability gradually improved, and my thinking became more open and flexible. Now as a worker, I can also adapt to the working environment of English and Cantonese, and communicate and cooperate effectively with different people and teams.

I am grateful to the MHSM program of Lingnan University, which enabled me to obtain a stable job in Hong Kong after graduating from my master’s degree, and gave me the opportunity to use my professional knowledge and skills in the field of health and social services, and contribute to society. I will continue to work hard, never forget my original intention, and keep learning and improving, to become a better self.
