I am very fortunate to be the first cohort of students in the SAG program. Participating in the Smart Aging and Gerontology program has been an incredibly beneficial experience for me.

Firstly, the SAG course is jointly offered by Lingnan University and Hong Kong Metropolitan University allowing us to experience the different teaching resources and strengths of both institutions. This has provided me with a profound understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to population aging. The course has laid a solid foundation in gerontology for us, and we have also compared aging data and systems between mainland China and Hong Kong, broadening our perspectives on the social, psychological, and health aspects of aging.

One standout aspect is the emphasis on smart aging technologies and their applications in improving the lives of elderly individuals. At both LU and HKMU campuses, we have had the opportunity to closely observe various barrier-free facilities, assistive devices for the elderly, VR equipment, and more. Additionally, the professors have taken us to participate in exhibitions organized by charitable organizations, allowing us to explore innovative solutions and stay updated on the latest developments in the field.

Furthermore, the program fosters a collaborative learning environment. Our classmates come from different regions and backgrounds, and almost every course provides opportunities for group collaboration, which has provided ample opportunities to connect with classmates and professors and share knowledge. Through these interactions, I have gained valuable insights and connections that have opened doors to new career prospects and professional development.

Personally, the SAG program has had a profound impact on my career path. It has deepened my empathy and understanding of the needs and desires of the elderly, enabling me to make meaningful contributions to their well-being. With a background in law, the SAG program has motivated me to become a lawyer dedicated to assisting the elderly and disabled, advocating for the protection of their rights, and using the law to ensure a happy and secure old age. I feel a sense of mission and accomplishment, committed to creating a society that supports and values population aging.

Overall, I am extremely grateful for this learning experience and the positive impact it has had on my professional and personal development. The Smart Aging and Gerontology program has provided me with the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to make a difference in the lives of the elderly. I am thrilled to continue my journey in this field.
