Introduction

The LEO Dr. David P. Chan Institute of Data Science (LEODCIDS) is a research and education institute within Lingnan University’s School of Data Science. Established in 2019 through the generous support of Lingnan Education Organization Limited and Dr. David P. Chan, the Institute advances interdisciplinary education, research and collaboration in data science and artificial intelligence.

Data science integrates artificial intelligence, computer science, statistics and mathematics with critical and creative thinking. As data continues to transform education, healthcare, business, government and society, LEODCIDS develops the knowledge, skills and partnerships needed to address complex real-world challenges.

Combining technical expertise with Lingnan University’s liberal arts tradition, the Institute adopts an interdisciplinary approach to education and research. It prepares students and researchers to analyse data critically, develop innovative solutions and consider the wider social implications of technology.

Our primary functions

Research and collaboration

The Institute promotes collaboration among academics, industry, government, community organisations and other stakeholders. Its research areas include artificial intelligence, data mining, machine learning, deep learning, big data analytics and related methodologies.

Through collaborative research and knowledge-transfer activities, LEODCIDS seeks to develop data-driven solutions for contemporary challenges and strengthen connections between the University and society.

Community and knowledge transfer

LEODCIDS shares research findings, innovative methods and professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, training programmes and other knowledge-transfer activities. These initiatives support the development of data literacy and strengthen engagement among researchers, practitioners, students and the wider community.
