Inauguration Ceremony and First Forum of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance for Chinese Language Education

The inauguration ceremony of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance for Chinese Language Education set up by The Education University of Hong Kong, with the support of Lingnan University and Shenzhen University.

The inauguration ceremony of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance for Chinese Language Education set up by The Education University of Hong Kong, with the support of Lingnan University and Shenzhen University.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance (GHMUA) for Chinese Language Education, set up by The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) with the support of Lingnan University and Shenzhen University held its inauguration ceremony on 14 September 2023 at EdUHK. Experts in Chinese language education and academics from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao attended the occasion to witness the inauguration of the Alliance.


The GHMUA for Chinese Language Education has been approved by the GHMUA Council, and is joined by 25 higher education institutions in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, including EdUHK, Jinan University, the Macau University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen University and Lingnan University. It will encourage exchanges and collaboration in Chinese language education in the Greater Bay Area, and the development and sharing of resources in line with national development strategies.



Among the guests attending the Ceremony were Ms Wu Cheng, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Prof Wu Jian, Vice President of South China Normal University, and representatives from EdUHK including Prof May Cheng May-hung, Vice President (Academic), Prof Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Vice President (Research and Development ), Dr Chow Man-kong, Associate Vice President (Institutional Advancement) and Prof Liang Yuan, Convenor of the Alliance. Lingnan University was represented by Prof Li Donghui, Associate Vice-President (Student Affairs), and Dr Li Fei, Senior Lecturer of the Chinese Language Education and Assessment Centre.

 

The Alliance held its first Forum on Chinese Language Education in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Universities,  "Exchange, Collaboration and Resource Sharing", on 15 September. It focused on the challenges and opportunities brought by big data and AI technology to Chinese language education in the Greater Bay Area in recent years, and explored the latest developments in the Chinese language curriculum and training for teachers. Prof Li Donghui, Associate Vice-President (Student Affairs) of Lingnan University, chaired the panel discussion, and together with Dr Li Fei, Senior Lecturer, presented a report entitled " A ten-year review of the Development of e-Learning in Chinese Language at Lingnan University". The report expresses Lingnan University's vision of becoming a leading liberal arts university in the digital era, as well as providing a summary of the development of Chinese language e-learning at Lingnan University over the past ten years and its future development.
