Lingnan University strengthens collaboration with Peking University, Northeastern University and Beijing Technology and Business University

A delegation from Lingnan University led by President Prof Joe Qin visited a number of universities in Shenyang and Beijing between 14 and 16 September. In Shenyang, as well as attending the anniversary celebrations of Northeastern University, Prof Qin signed two collaboration agreements, and delivered a keynote speech at the 2023 Global University Presidents’ Forum. In Beijing, the Lingnan delegation met Prof Gong Qihuang, President of Peking University, and Prof Guo Jianhua, President of Beijing Technology and Business University. These visits and meetings have helped consolidate the relationships between Lingnan University and Peking University, Northeastern University and the Beijing Technology and Business University, laying a solid foundation for further collaboration.


During the 2023 International Conference on the Co-operation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application (Shenyang) held the morning of 14 September, Lingnan University renewed the student exchange agreement with Northeastern University, while LEO Dr David P. Chan Institute of Data Science, and the Science Unit at the School of Interdisciplinary Studies signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Northeastern University’s State Key Laboratory of Synthetical Automation for Process Industries. After the conference, President Prof Qin had an in-depth discussion with Prof Tang Lixin, Vice-President of Northeastern University, on expanding research and talent co-operation between the two universities, which are both looking forward to their key laboratories at Lingnan University and in the Greater Bay Area.

In the afternoon of 14 September, President Prof Qin and his delegation met President Prof Guo Jianhua and Vice-President Professor Liu Minhua of the Beijing Technology and Business University for a productive exchange on research partnerships, faculty and student exchange, and the nurturing of talents.

President Prof Gong Qihuang, and Vice-President Prof Wang Bo of Peking University received the Lingnan delegation in the morning of 15 September at the university’s Lin Hu Xuan, where President Prof Qin explained the latest developments at Lingnan University and the unique features of a liberal arts education. They had an in-depth discussion on strengthening and broadening the association between the two universities, and the possibility of jointly organising academic conferences. They also hope to step up working together in the fields of data science, artificial intelligence, and humanities, and to encourage faculty and student exchanges.

 

President Qin and his delegation also paid a visit to Yuanpei College of Peking University to see Prof Li Meng and his team. As well as discussing their views on nurturing talents with a liberal arts education, they agreed to launch a series of workshops, co-host international forums, and organise the innovation and entrepreneurship competition together.

 

In the evening of 15 September, President Prof Qin attended the 2023 Chinese and Foreign University Presidents' Forum hosted by Northeastern University, and delivered a keynote speech "135 Years of Internationalised Education at Lingnan University". He told the presidents and representatives of nearly 40 Chinese and foreign universities about Lingnan University's 100-year history, the features of a liberal arts education, and the university’s latest developments, vision and initiatives in an era characterised by artificial intelligence.

The "A future steered by change and innovation: Challenges and missions of higher education in the new era" forum gathered views on the future mode of university development through fruitful dialogue.
