Message from CIO and University Librarian

As the new academic term is about to start, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all new students.  Have you all got your new LU Card?

LU card

In view of the need to enhance the use of smart cards on campus and to build a new branding for the University, a new LU card as your student card has been available since July 2022. Aiming at "One LU Card for ALL Lingnanians”, this LU card not only identifies you as a member of the University but also provides you with access to the campus and authorizes your use of different facilities of the campus including the Library, computer laboratories, sports facilities, hostels, meeting rooms, car parks, etc.  Besides students, each member of the University will also get their new LU card with the same design but in different colors according to their identities. Some designated groups of members will be granted virtual cards downloadable on smart mobile devices to enhance the convenience of using the LU cards.  This new card adopts the latest MIFARE Plus EV2 standard that supports Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and symmetric key to provide enhanced security for authentication, data integrity, and encryption.  New smart card readers have also been installed at various access points of the University.

The LU Card is one of the initiatives of smart campus and the digital transformation of the University operations. You will learn in this newsletter the various new systems that have been launched to automate some manual processes that have been in place for years, new IT facilities including the new Wi-Fi 6 system for 8 hostels on campus, and our efforts to continually upgrade our network infrastructure.

I am also excited about the commencement of the Library Renovation and Spatial Reorganization 2022 project that will bring together the three offices of the Library, ITSC, and Human Resources Office into 4/F of the Main Building after its completion.  A new ITSC service counter will also be set up.  My colleagues are working hard to plan for more effective support for all students and staff in the new service counter.  I wish all of you a successful start to the new academic year!
