President S. Joe Qin elected Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and Fellow of HKAES

Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science of Lingnan University, has been elected a member in Technical and Environmental Sciences class of the esteemed European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

 

President Qin is the first scholar at Lingnan to receive this momentous achievement, alongside more than 2,000 eminent scholars and practitioners, including 32 Nobel Prize laureates, from various regions across Europe.

 

This is another prestigious title honoured by a world-famous academy of sciences, following Prof Qin’s recognition as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors.

 

In addition, Prof Qin has just elected as Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAES) for the year 2023.

 

I am deeply honoured to have been elected a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. As an engineering and data science expert, I am committed to advancing scientific knowledge, leveraging the power of data, and applying engineering principles to address pressing global environmental challenges. The European Academy of Sciences and Arts is one of the academies of sciences housing the highest proportion of Nobel laureates around the globe. Its mission is to stimulate cross-disciplinary collaboration among reputable scientists of all disciplines, leading artists and practitioners of governance, for academic exchange and integration of the sciences, technologies, humanities, and arts. The Academy’s members are divided into seven classes: Humanities, Medicine, Arts, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Law and Economics, Technical and Environmental Sciences, and World Religions.

 

HKAES is a professional engineering organisation for engineers in Hong Kong, founded by Sir Sze Yuen Chung, Nobel Laureate in Physics Prof Charles Kuen Kao, and other eminent leaders. Other international honours awarded to Prof S. Joe Qin include Fellow of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), AIChE Fellow, and IEEE Fellow. He is the recipient of the 2022 CAST Computing in Chemical Engineering Award by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the 2022 IEEE CSS Transition to Practice Award.
