Distinguished Scholars Seminar Series: renowned scholar from Manchester University shares insights on international higher education
The Lingnan Distinguished Scholars Seminar Series was held on 12 January, with Dr Miguel Antonio Lim, Senior Lecturer in Education and Research Excellence Framework (REF) coordinator at the Manchester Institute of Education, presenting an “Ethical Internationalisation in Higher Education and the Need for Understanding ‘South-to-South’ Student Mobility” seminar to over a hundred of graduate students and scholars.
A renowned scholar of international and transnational higher education, Dr Lim delves into less-explored areas of the transfer of policies and students between countries of the Global South. Invited by Lingnan University’s School of Graduate Studies, he led engaging discussions on the evolving role of transnational higher education as part of wider national development policies, focusing particularly on the Global South and developing countries primarily in the southern hemisphere. He also emphasised the role of policies in fostering more equitable partnerships in higher education.

Additionally, Dr Lim shed light on the current landscape of higher education in Mainland China, drawing the audience's attention to the its pivotal role to reinforce accessible higher education given the remarkable growth and expanding scale of transnational higher education. Moreover, he presented his perspective on the substantial rise in intra-ASEAN student flows over recent decades, contributing significantly to the ongoing transformation of the global educational landscape.
