Lingnan University organised the “Experience in Lingnan University” together with Lingnan Dr Chung Wing Kwong Memorial Secondary School, Lingnan Hang Yee Memorial Secondary School and Lingnan Secondary School from 26 to 28 June on Lingnan campus.  Some 90 students from the three secondary schools joined the event, which showcased the strong bond of the Lingnan family.  The event was generously supported by the Lingnan Education Organization (LEO), which aims to offer opportunities for secondary students to experience liberal arts education as well as the vibrant living-and-learning environment at Lingnan through a rich array of lectures, programmes and hostel experience.

To introduce the University’s comprehensive liberal arts curriculum, four lectures covering areas of English, Arts, Business and Social Sciences were given to the students.  Dr Janet HO, Senior Lecturer of the Department of English delivered an English lecture on how English words are created.  Prof Paul WHITLA, Associate Professor of Teaching of the Department of Marketing and International Business explained the essence of marketing.  The participants also attended a lecture about Hong Kong food culture by Dr SIU Yan-Ho, Lecturer of the Department of Chinese and another one on “Thinking Politically” by Prof Samson YUEN, Assistant Professor of the Department of Political Science.

The Programme’s kick-off ceremony on 26 June was officiated by Mr LUI Ngok-Che, Honorary Secretary of LEO.  During the 3-day programme, participating students joined the Integrated Learning Programme (ILP) which is one of the signature co-curricular programmes of the University to facilitate students’ learning beyond classroom.  They also took part in team-building activities, campus tours and sharing sessions by Lingnan student volunteers, a visit to the Library, an introductory talk on admission requirements by the Registry and a visit to the Fu Tei Bookstore.  Three LEO Ambassadors, who are graduates of Lingnan, were invited to share their university and work experiences with the secondary school students.  At the closing ceremony, Dr WONG Pak-Heung, Director of LEO greeted the youngsters while Mr CHIU Tin-Lap, Director of LEO made the closing remarks.
