AR Charitable Foundation and Lingnan University co-organise “The Future Development of Insurance Industry in Hong Kong” Conference

AR Charitable Foundation and Lingnan University co-organised “The Future Development of Insurance Industry in Hong Kong” Conference on 10 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with the Hon Paul CHAN Mo-Po, the Financial Secretary of the Government of the HKSAR as the officiating guest and the keynote speaker.  With more than 600 participants from insurance and education industries, the Conference is one of the major celebratory events of the 50th Anniversary of Lingnan University’s re-establishment in Hong Kong, aiming to explore the challenges and opportunities facing by the Hong Kong insurance industry.

The Conference provides a platform for government bodies, regulators, industry professionals and scholars to discuss and share ideas on the regulatory, professional practice and training issues related to the insurance industry, as well as an opportunity for industry members to express their views on the industry’s development and how the government and relevant authorities respond to various opportunities and challenges in terms of policy and administrative support.  It is hoped that the Conference would promote collaborations between different industry players and stakeholders for the future development of Hong Kong’s insurance industry.

In his welcome remarks, Mr Mason WU Shang-Tun, Director of AR Charitable Foundation reflected that the Foundation has been actively involved in the insurance industry for numerous years and seeks to give back to the community by supporting talent development for the growth and sustainability of the insurance industry.  “We have launched the ‘AR Charitable Foundation Scholarship Scheme’ to support the undergraduate programme in Risk and Insurance Management (RIM) of Lingnan University as we believe education is the most important investment for nurturing our future generation,” he added.

President Leonard K CHENG said at his welcome remarks that the University is committed to grooming insurance talents through the RIM programme to meet the demand of the insurance industry.  Supporting by AR Charitable Foundation, the programme offers students a myriad of learning, exchange and internship opportunities, and supports distinguished students to obtain a master degree in insurance at City University London.  “In June, Lingnan University was awarded by the International Insurance Society the Global Centers of Insurance Excellence designation, or GCIE in short, alongside with other eight renowned universities in the US, Switzerland, Spain and South Korea.  The GCIE certification programme recognises outstanding risk management and insurance programmes that play an integral role in promoting insurance knowledge and research, and Lingnan is credited for offering one of the best insurance education programmes across the globe.  To be exact, with this prestigious designation, our programme is among the world’s top 29 programmes,” he said.

Under the topic of “Future Development of the Insurance Industry and Talent Supply”, two panel discussions were arranged to feature industry leaders and academics for in-depth analysis, and to gather officials from the government and regulatory and statutory bodies for sharing related issues.
