In recognition of LEO’s many contributions to Lingnan University, the ceremony celebrates its generous donation and unfailing support. This donation aims to not only expand the university's teaching facilities, but also establish a Lingnan history museum and an archive to commemorate the university's rich history and heritage.

On this occasion, 72 students with outstanding achievements in academia, community service, overseas and Mainland exchange programmes, and research projects were appointed as ambassadors under the LEO Ambassadors Programme. They will promote liberal arts education and contribute to the University and LEO.

In his welcoming remarks, President Qin, spoke of the University's recent developments and accomplishments, including the establishment of the School of Data Science and the Lingnan University Institute for Advanced Study this year, as well as the upcoming Lingnan Shenzhen Institute, which has already attracted many internationally renowned scholars and research projects to Lingnan University. Talking about the University`s growing reputation, President Qin also said “There were also more than 2,500 students enrolled in our postgraduate and doctoral programs last fall, a record high in both quantity and quality, reflecting the University's strong reputation and the increasing appeal of our academic offerings.”

In his congratulatory remarks, Mr Augustine Wong Ho-ming, Council Deputy Chairman of Lingnan University, pointed out that the University's ambitious development and transformation go hand in hand with the active engagement of its students. Mr Wong stressed that “the University's ambitious development and revolution are inseparable from the active engagement of students, which has made technology and innovative teaching approaches an integral part of the university's curriculum. In the upcoming 2024/25 academic year, the university will introduce generative AI as a required core course for all first-year students.”

Both President Qin and Mr Wong highlighted the important role that LEO plays in the development of the university and its students. In addition to supporting campus facilities and programmes, the LEO Ambassadors Programme, which has been in place since 2009, is a prime example of LEO's commitment to supporting Lingnan students.

Mr Augustine Lui Ngok-che, the Chairman of LEO, recalled LEO's longstanding affiliation with the University and its steadfast commitment to student support as a core objective.
