Two teams from Lingnan University’s Master of Science in Environmental, Social, and Governance Management (MScESGM) programme won the Third Award and a Merit Award in The 2nd Kubuqi Award: International Desert Sustainable Development Proposal Competition respectively.

 

Team “Stan”, composed of Liao Ruopeng, Weng Mingming, Chen Jinglan, and Tam Pak-lap, won the Third Prize with a purse of HK$30,000, a certificate, and a trip to the Kubuqi Desert. Team “Mongolian Navy”, comprising Mu Kai, Luo Muyang, Wan Lingfeng from Lingnan University, and Xu Zhuowei from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, received the Merit Award and a bonus of HK$5,000.

 

The MScESGM students, with their solid academic skills and imaginative thinking, have worked for five months and overcome numerous difficulties to achieve excellent results, as demonstrated in this competition.

 

Recommended by Prof Nancy Chen Yifeng, Professor of the Department of Management at Lingnan University, Mr Plato K T Yip, Vice Chairman of Elion International Investment Limited, and Ms Julie Nie, Chairperson of Elion Foundation Limited, explained the background and founding philosophy of the competition, and Prof Shi Shanshan, Programme Director of MScESGM, invited Ms Belinda Lau, Programme Manager of Lingnan’s Office of Service-Learning, to show the students how to write a business plan. Dr Stan Ho, Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Business, also provided valuable guidance.

 

This annual event promotes sustainable development and environmental protection in the Kubuqi Desert, and encourages students to play a part in ecological conservation. It also supports global and national sustainable development and ecological conservation, and allows participants from various countries and regions to showcase their skills, ideas, and innovative solutions for a greener future.
