Peer Mentor Programme (Peer Mentor)

Aims and Objectives

The Peer Mentor Programme is to help:

  • new students adjust to hostel and university life;

  • mentors gain leadership skills through helping experience;

  • develop a supportive and effective learning community at the University;

  • create a caring culture in the campus; and

  • identify special needs of new undergraduate students and make necessary referrals. 

 

 

Duration

22 August 2024 to 31 December 2024

Mentor

  • Year 2 or above full-time undergraduate students

  • Not on exchange programme in Term 1, 2024-25

 

Mentee

Full-time undergraduate new students  (First-year or Senior year)

 

Mentors are paired with up to 5 first-year students or senior-year admitted students who will:

  • build and contribute to a mentoring relationship with peers by meeting regularly as a small group to discuss and share experience;

  • foster student engagement and support peers in adjusting to hostel and/or university life;

  • practice active listening and provide referrals to campus resources; and

  • organize and participate in mentoring sessions and/or group activities with your mentee(s).

 

What You Will Gain for Full Committment:

  • Unique leadership exposure and tailor-made training

  • ILP Units: 

    - 6 units (Completion of all training sessions and completion of Peer Mentor Programme)

     

  • Allowance: 

    - HK$500, upon completion of all training sessions AND submission of Programme Evaluation by 31 December 2024

    HK$300 per mentor-led activities with at least two mentees (max. claim for 3 activities)

  • E-Certificate

  • Welcome your mentees and provide them guidance

Campus Life Carnival 2024

  • Lead your mentees to enjoy performances and booths run by student societies and university teams
September - December 2024Organise 2 mentor-led social activities
September - December 2024Attend at least 1 social activity orgranised by OSA for Peer Mentor Programme
31 December 2024Submission of Term-end Programme Evaluation
