Two Lingnan professors recognised for outstanding scientific research and teaching

Two professors from the Science Unit of Lingnan University, Prof Tang Xiaopeng, Assistant Professor, and Prof Helen Geng Hongyan, Assistant Professor of Teaching, have received awards in recognition of their research and teaching excellence.

 

Prof Tang Xiaopeng, whose research interests are in modeling and control of energy storage systems, won eTransportation’s Best Annual Paper prize with his first-authored original research paper on “Joint estimation of state-of-charge and state-of-health for all cells in the battery pack using ‘leader-follower’ strategy”.

 

“It is a great honour to receive the Best Annual Paper prize from the world-leading Elsevier journal eTransportation. This prestigious prize will inspire me to carry out more exciting research at Lingnan University,” Prof Tang said, who is among the 16 Lingnan scholars listed as the World’s Top 2% Scientists according to Stanford University announced earlier.

eTransportation is a peer-reviewed international journal focusing on automotive engineering, transportation, electrical and electronic engineering, and energy engineering and power technology, ranking first in the sub-area of automotive engineering (1/115), and second in the sub-area of transportation (2/128). Its impact factor is 11.9, and the CiteScore is 22.6. Only 17 papers published between 2019 and 2023 were selected as best papers.

 

Prof Helen Geng Hongyan was awarded First Prize in the 4th National Teaching Competition among Early Career Geology Teachers held at Yangtze University in Wuhan, China recently, and Lingnan University was named Excellent Organizing Body.

 

“This competition allows me to expand my pedagogical network and to establish potential collaborations with distinguished educators,” Prof Geng said, adding that she had learned a lot from the best teaching philosophy and practice in the lectures delivered by esteemed educators and the winners of the national teaching competitions.

 

Prof Geng was also a recipient of Outstanding Teaching Award for Early Career Faculty Member under Lingnan University’s Teaching Excellence Awards Scheme 2021/22 for her dedication to quality education.

Organised by the Geological Society of China, the biennial National Teaching Competition among Early Career Geology Teachers brings together highly selective educators from tertiary institutions across the nation in order to promote the exchange of pedagogical insights and to encourage good teaching practices in geology. This year, over 170 early career teachers from about 70 higher education institutions in China competed for various awards.
