Exploring the History and Culture of Lingnan: A Journey Through Three Guangdong Locations

A group of 30 local and non-local students joined the “LingArt” Guangzhou Arts and Cultural Exchange Tour from 28 to 30 March. The tour was co-organized by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and the Hong Kong Public Archaeological Society. The students explored various cultural and historical places in Guangzhou, Dongguan and Kaiping, such as the Southern Han Mausoleums Museum, the Shamian Architectural Complex, the Cangdong Cultural Heritage Conservation and Development Center, and the China Qiaodu Museum of Overseas Chinese. Besides learning about history and culture through guided tours, students also took part in interactive activities like making pottery, preparing mugwort rice cakes, and listening to the music from Chinese Guqin, thus experiencing Guangdong's rich historical culture and regional features firsthand. The tour also organized a root-seeking journey for Lingnanians, visiting the Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Students received a warm welcome from the staff and students from the Lingnan College of SYSU, strolled around the campus and discussed the historical links between the two universities.
